Anyone really know how to get rid of gophers????????

Friday, May 21, 2004 by teddybearcholla | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

We "had" this beautiful front yard, no grass, stones, and a rock river, with all kinds of cactus, flowering sage, a huge agave, et. We have lost the agave, the little b..guy ate up all the inside, I sure hope he had a hangover! Now he is working on our australian bottle tree, a beautiful tree it was, now it is very stressed Have tried trapping, putting bubblegum down the holes, even poured a bottle of ammonia and then bleach, thought I got him, but he popped up after a few days. Sounds cruel, I don't like killing anything, but he is destroying all the plants > My neighbor said that he and a friend of his, when living in Montana, tried to get rid of a gopher by putting propane down the hole and lighting a match "Caddy Shack" I guess was more true to life then I realized
Anyway, this is a serious question, if any of you have any ideas, or have had the problem yourselves and know the answer

How about a .22 caliber rifle and/or a stick of dynamite?

There is a multitude of products on the market to rid your yard of such pests. I've lived on farms most of my life and have never come across a way of ridding myself of the little beasties. However they can be controlled by - cats. O.K. one other measure is Jalapeno juice undiluted. Pour it around whatever you want to save. >

I found that cats can get rid of them. One draw back is they scare off the birds. Our neighbor got two kittens, that grew into adults. They stalked the mounds, caught or ran them off.

On a side note we had moles as well. They eat grubs, plant roots, etc. A good grub killer pellet applied like fertilizer, kills the grubs and the moles move on to find another food source.

Does gophers like veggies? Make a booby trap. Make a veggie train & a trap. Then, snatch the gopher.

Mrs. Chickie, thank you, but Gophers get all their "veggies" from all the roots they eat !!!

Old Crab, thank you, I will try the jalapeno juice, but it will take many gallons
