Vanity, skins, etc.

Wednesday, March 3, 2004 by hellish911 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm looking at all of these Object Desktop themes and all I see are a bunch of beveled, rounded, big sloppy edges. This is definitely not eye-candy. I'm not much for making these themes or I'd do it myself, but I'd like to see something with flat, plain, smooth edges streamline and futuristic without the mess and garbage. Simplistic. You know what I mean? For example, everyone is raving over this "Killer Suite" but I took one look at the dock that was made and saw this ugly bubbled out mess of a creation. I want transparency, smooth, streamline and FLAT plains with hover effects and shadows. If someone could do this, I'm positive they'd get much more of a positive reaction out of these people than what these guys throwing out these bubbled garbage heaps are getting. Someone hook me up so I can have a good desktop. After all.. I paid money for OD.

Yes, well what's good taste to one may not be good taste to another, whether we're talking art or cuisine. For instance, presumably someone must think those velvet Elvis paintings are tres chic.

I could say the same for this post.. Don't like what I have to say, don't comment on it. Ya fool.

I could say the same for the skins... if ya don't like them... Shut up.

BTW: If you want something simple and futurustic... maybe https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=3789

Hellish, you have a right to say what you want to say, and how you want to say it. I just want to say a little something too.

That guy who made killer, do you know he didn't even know about skinning anything until very recently (like only about 8 months back)? Do you know that he is a very nice, hard working (carpenter by trade and not a graphic design specialist) guy that goes out of his way to listen to people and to help them? I happen to think that he is extremely talented and I know he doesn't deserve the feelings your rant is bound to elicit.

Just like you have a right to say what you want, and how you want, so does he have a right to come to skinning, play with visual styles, learn and contribute without being abused. Heck, he is so new to the field of skinning that he hasn't even had a chance to really experience the things you are already tired of.

I admit I didn't read this whole thread. I will go back to do that later. I saw a friend taking abuse and I am stepping in now to say a word. When I calm my anger, I will come read the whole entire thing.

goodmorphing, I've already emailed Tiggz and apologized and also asked him if he would help me with designing what I'd like to see more of on here. I came off very crudely and I do apologize. I hope everyone understands.

na, thats just your head attempting to reverse itself back out from being wedged between your butt cheeks

( taking a conversation to the negative to catch someones eye/mind and shifting it back to the positive is rather bothersome, time consuming and also chancing not getting them to flip where you expected if at all. One has to be ready for that eventuality, frankly speaking most do not just turn over and flip as expected)

Seriously though...

You can say nothing and say much or you can say a lot and saying nothing at all. It all depends on how you approach it with the presentation.

Singling out specific people (or their work)is not the way to get a point across. From what I read you lost it a the begining of the thread by basically calling all other than what you like crap. Then attempting to throw a snide shoulder at anyone who questioned you on the guantlet youhad laid down on yuor own.

Yes, I also feel that less is more in many instances, but at the sametime know that explosive works just as well for others. If you like a style sitck with it, but don't be disrespectful of the other styles and or people making them just because it is not your cup of tea so to speak.

At that point... I would think that it is up to *you* to learn the applications, test your artistic talents and either keep what you have come up with or share it with others. But in no way did the purchase of Stardock products buy you themes on demand. (meaning, you bought the product which gives you the ability to do with it as you like as far as creating your own themses and access to this site to download others themes, anything beyond that is cake and cookies ( don't like em, don't eat em ))

My whole life has been for nothing. Thank you hellish911 for helping me to see the true worthlessness of my work, and prompting me to do something to resolve the issue. Later tonight I'll be deleting all of my over-saturated bubbly crap from the site, after which I will wander down into my basement and make friends with a noose.

Thank you. You've saved me the torture of going through another 50 years of meaningless toil, producing increasing amounts of bevelled garbage to feed the ever-increasing trash heap of skinning.

Farewell my friends.

IPlural, first of all.. I'm sure no one needs you to come to their rescue, and by you jumping on here and giving your input, I'm sure you feel like quite the hero. I'm not arguing my point anymore so your addition to this thread is useless.

grayhaze, I don't know what your themes look like, nor do I care. But if you 'do' have glossy/bubbly/over saturated themes then maybe you should reconsider your technique in skinning and design. That's just my opinion and opinions are like skins, everyones got some. Some not as appealing as others. Thanks for your input tho, Sir grayhaze.

I understand that I've pissed a lot of people off and you guys will never forgive me, but I'm sure if I change my nickname and come back a new, refreshed individual you'll never know the difference. My point is.. This is the internet. Don't take my 'text' to heart because it's not personal and it's really just meaningless. I'm not going to be a jerk anymore, so if you'd like to forgive me I'm sure we can all move on. I apologize. I'm sorry. I was horrible.

Hellish, I had problems accessing some pages and files earlier. It could be a server problem. Did you mean d e l e t e? (seems like typing that word normally sometimes erases it).
