Vanity, skins, etc.

I'm looking at all of these Object Desktop themes and all I see are a bunch of beveled, rounded, big sloppy edges. This is definitely not eye-candy. I'm not much for making these themes or I'd do it myself, but I'd like to see something with flat, plain, smooth edges streamline and futuristic without the mess and garbage. Simplistic. You know what I mean? For example, everyone is raving over this "Killer Suite" but I took one look at the dock that was made and saw this ugly bubbled out mess of a creation. I want transparency, smooth, streamline and FLAT plains with hover effects and shadows. If someone could do this, I'm positive they'd get much more of a positive reaction out of these people than what these guys throwing out these bubbled garbage heaps are getting. Someone hook me up so I can have a good desktop. After all.. I paid money for OD.

grayhaze, I don't know what your themes look like, nor do I care. But if you 'do' have glossy/bubbly/over saturated themes then maybe you should reconsider your technique in skinning and design

yeah grayhaze, you had better listen to him, his ID is waaaaay bigger than yours...

I'm not trying to tell anyone to 'listen' to me. I'm just giving my opinion.

Do you guys know how, in DesktopX2.10 to create an object that shows the programs running currently in the taskbar, like it does on the normal windows taskbar. Do I need to use the object bar plugin for that?

Hellish, you don't give your opinion, you state things. If I say: Hellish has a bad taste.
Then I say you do, and state the fact that you do have a bad taste. On the otherside I can say: I think hellish has a bad taste, then I am just telling my opinion about it without hurting anyones feelings (or should that be ego's ) and that would be a little bit nicer right?

I'm stating my opinion.. So.. Yes, I do state things. And you say that I should present it in a way that is a bit nicer but telling you what I think is telling you what I think. There's no other way around it. But yes, I was cruel and I apologize. "I think hellish has a bad taste" <- I stated my opinion in exactly that way.

#48 by IPlural - 3/4/2004 2:06:43 PM na, thats just your head attempting to reverse itself back out from being wedged between your butt cheeks ( taking a conversation to the negative to catch someones eye/mind and shifting it back to the positive is rather bothersome, time consuming and also chancing not getting them to flip where you expected if at all. One has to be ready for that eventuality, frankly speaking most do not just turn over and flip as expected)Seriously though...

You can say nothing and say much or you can say a lot and saying nothing at all. It all depends on how you approach it with the presentation.

Singling out specific people (or their work)is not the way to get a point across. From what I read you lost it a the begining of the thread by basically calling all other than what you like crap. Then attempting to throw a snide shoulder at anyone who questioned you on the guantlet youhad laid down on yuor own.

Yes, I also feel that less is more in many instances, but at the sametime know that explosive works just as well for others. If you like a style sitck with it, but don't be disrespectful of the other styles and or people making them just because it is not your cup of tea so to speak.

At that point... I would think that it is up to *you* to learn the applications, test your artistic talents and either keep what you have come up with or share it with others. But in no way did the purchase of Stardock products buy you themes on demand. (meaning, you bought the product which gives you the ability to do with it as you like as far as creating your own themses and access to this site to download others themes, anything beyond that is cake and cookies ( don't like em, don't eat em ))....

#51 by hellish911 - 3/4/2004 3:47:42 PM IPlural, first of all.. I'm sure no one needs you to come to their rescue, and by you jumping on here and giving your input, I'm sure you feel like quite the hero. I'm not arguing my point anymore so your addition to this thread is useless.

Hero to whom? You? For attempting to point out some basic social grace in the use of the messsage board?

Hell, I do not care to argue your point either and if you *READ* what I posted you know that. You would also
know that the points you made which I found valid I do agree with and said as much.

As far as my posting being a useless point, that is a case of opinion. Your opinion as stated, be that as it may is not mine.

I could have taken the direct track and told you don't be a prick.

But I didn't, I allowed for the missing parts of online communication expressing Thoughts, Ideas and various other missing aspects because of not being face to face.

Uesless?

Yes I guess it was very wordy and extreamly useless, it is obvious the context and intent of my post totally passed you by and seems to have butted up against your neck rendering all progress for Cranial Egress pass tense...

Hero? no I am far from anyone's hero...

as a matter of fact I can be the complete oppsite...
it all depends on the moment

Someone pass hellish a Stick-Up before he passes out...

Hmm, you come here and call all the works here crap and then you ask for help?
You call a guy's skin crap and then you email him wanting to collaberate?
Where's the logic? Obviously, you tried to put yourself on a pedestle without doing anything. Well, we bow down to you. NOT.

So, Pixtudio works are all crap? Mormegil's work is all crap?
Major companies are hiring them and paying big money for their services.

Millions are downloading these skins and leaving beautiful comments. But, these millions of people have no taste? Hmm.

You want us to believe that all these millions are wrong and you are the best judge of good taste?

You want us to believe that these major successful companies who are sponsoring events to promote the work here, did so because they saw skins of bad taste.

Your logic just doesn't make sense. Unless, you believe that you are god and the best judge of "taste". Personally, I think you are alone and wrong, and just trying to insult others because you can't do it yourself.

Two words that come to my mind are envy and jealousy. And these are sad character traits for someone who claims to have better tastes than everyone else here. Unless, you are god, and I don't think so.

If I am wrong, then prove it or please just go away. Let the rest of us million people enjoy the skins that are shared with us. Let the rest of us try to contribute, develop our works, and not tear down fellow artists.

You can sit there and put everyone down. The artists, the downloaders, and all the companies and sponsors who have such poor taste. And I hope it makes you like a great person with better taste than everyone here. All I see is hot air.

Better yet, where's that rock?

Well I think the only way you are gonna get any help around here hellish is to change your name like you said. I accepted your apology and I am glad to see you are trying to learn Desktop x yourself. I am expecting something new and original from you. No pressure now.

In my opinion, I wouldn't put most of pixtudio's work on my desktop if someone paid me to do it. It's too much. Take a look at the work "Zippo" and please, don't tell me it's not over-saturing and lacking contrast. This is my point. The reason these people are getting hired by companies for graphic design work is because of the lack of originality to choose from.

I'm going to tell everyone exactly why I don't like a lot of the work here. The reason I started skinning and playing around with the Windows XP GUI was to change the original commercial look of everything and give it something thats worth looking at. A lot of what I see on here is going along the same lines as what Windows XP originally looked like. Too bubbly and commercialized.. No wonder these companies are sponsering them. But atleast XP GUI had contrast.. I see a lot of these 'top' skinners and it seems to me like they know graphic design but they don't know good taste. It could possibly look pleasing to the eye, but it seems like they're missing something. Anyway.. Everyone knows what they say about opinions.

oh yes, now, whenever we talk about new skins, now we say "better not make it look like bubbly *hit because we know how many people have the same mind as hellish. so we try not to make any more bubbly *hit skins to please those people. who cares if we like to make them, better not because some people are tired of them... <- i am speaking for all skinners.
