LCD Monitors and Wives

Wednesday, January 14, 2004 by Stupendous Man | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Yesturday I had the opportunity to work on my boss' computer (she has a 17 inch LCD monitor, I have a 17 inch CRT monitor), and I was BLOWN AWAY! The sharpnes, the clarity, even on tiny type was excellent. My question is: How do I convence my wife (who thinks of a computer as just a tool) that $400 or so dollars is NOT unreasonable for a monitor?

Any good reasons, advices (is that a word?), or rationales will be appreciated.

I think you guys are married to the wrong women   Jeez, it sounds like your lives have ended just because you are married.

My husband and I spend money on our own toys.  I like it when he wants to buy something, because I can always then justify my cheaper toy that I want.  He buys a $6,500 snowmobile, I get a $3,000 camera.  See how that works?

Smash your current screen and trick her into getting the LCD.

Might backfire though.

I can undestand how my wife might feel $400 or so is a lot to spend, especially when you can buy a CRT for half that amount.

But I want it anyway!!!

I will probably catch the least grief if I just save for it.

Save for it...are you serious? You must be kidding! Here in America we never save for anything. Just break out the Visa and go for it! After all...that's what America is all about...Getting the best toys we don't need, with money we don't have, to impress people we don't know! That's how us MEN do it!

Well, I can always wait another year for them to come down in price a little more.

My dad always said, (when it comes to new technology) Wait one to two years after the technology hits the common market. By then the price will have come down to a reasonable range and it will be more affordable.
Thus far, most everything in the technology market has done just that, come down to more affordable prices.
Plus, the wait will make the end result that much sweeter.

Maybe I'm strange but I rate 'wives' higher than LCD monitors so I'll wait for her approval rather than 'its'...

Don't be a pistol whipped pussy.....just do it.......get down that store now and pick yourself up a nice Hercules 15 or 17 inch number....And on the drive home pick up a tin hat from your hardware store.....you are going to need it......you could always sweeten the blow with some ideas of how to spend an equal amount of money on her and the kids on a holiday or something for the house which they would enjoy

#4 by Citizen Ordos - 1/14/2004 1:11:56 PM Tell her it saves space and that it's better looking...

Also a good excuse for having a girlfriend just kidding

you could always sweeten the blow with some ideas of how to spend an equal amount of money

Leo's Idea is a good one. My wife and I spend on ourselves the same way. So when I want a new toy, I just have to decide if I can afford to double the cost.

Another excuse is that the price of lcds are rising because of the demand. They were the cheapest about a month ago

OMG!!! I have just spent the last 5 minutes LMAO!!!! There is no easy way to get that LCD from the sounds of it. But I do like the wine and dine theory myself...but as I am the wife here, and my hubby asked if he could have one, well, I would jump on that band wagon and go!!!!!
