Actually I think Back-Light projection TV's are going to be the standard. From what I read at News.com.com (CNET's website) back-lit TV's are bigger AND cheaper. (I think I have the link)
As for convincing your wife about the monitor I would say it takes up less space if you get a LCD display. I would also agree that there would be less to dust because those things collect dust like I-Don't-Know-What!
