Now I Have To Pay?

I have been collecting Wallpapers for years and now I have to pay or buy something? What's up with that? Not everybody has money these days, due to hour cuts and such. In my spare time, I like to collect awsome looking wallpapers and this is the best site to do just that. I'm sorry, but I just can't afford to purchase anything. I understand that bandwidth costs money but it would be nice to have a certain limit per day that you can download. Thanks.

I have never understood this argument...without stardock,winc would just be another wallpaper site,without winc,stardock would have to rely on these other skinning sites to generate interest in their products.Stardock pays dearly for this exposure here,so whats the prob?Makes sense to me and is obviously working pretty well.If I had become interested in windowblinds thru one of the non-stardock related sites,I would still be using that pirate copy of WB I started with.It was wincustomise that made me want to join the family.

If it wasn't for Wincustomize I probably wouldn't have bought an OD subscription - this site is the best showroom for what Stardock products can do and sold me on the idea within a few days.

may be, but (just as an example) im 16 and don't get as much money as an adult. in order to have full access i have to buy OD for 49,95$ and subscribe to winc for 20$ for two years????? i'll be forced to, because of the evaluation tim of wb (2 month)... great! 
on the other hand its just a great idea, and so i'll pay.

LA Warewolf, not thinking beyond your own situation? What about the owners of Wincustomize's situation? They pay to uphold the site too, perhaps they would like to have some of that money for other things, but no, they spend that money on upholding the site because they want to bring the joy of skinning to everyone. 50 megs of download is very generous I think.
If you've downloaded 50 megs worth, and want more, you should pay a little and buy a subscription.
I mean, say you get paid every 2 weeks, if you set aside $5 from every paycheck, in 2 months you have enough to buy an account, for 2 YEARS!

Nobody hates you...maybe they just don't like your two boot skins. I doubt "Nobody loves me" posts will win you any friends.

Not quite right.......... although ObjectDesktop is a great value, you don't have to buy the whole package, and you certainly don't have to buy the WC subscription on top of that, just to have unlimited downloads. People do this to help the site, but isn't required. All Stardock requires is that you purchase any Stardock product..... even CursorXP for 10 dollars will get you full access. It's great when people go above and beyond the call, and purchase the full OD pakage, CursorXP, and a subscription, but you're certainly not required to.

Tha's not quite right either.......... if you buy OD, you are a subscriber of OD. The WC subscription is a different thing.

I bought a subscription last night. I now support this site. It took some rearranging of bills (long term). Just because money is green, it doesn't mean it grows on trees. It still seems alot just to download Walls. I don't have any Stardock products to utilize the rest of the site.

I do realize that not everyone is a freeloader, and some just can't pay. However why should you be more entitled to a free ride than the owners of Wincustomize? If they share, why can't you share?
Besides, it's not like you're going to die without downloading stuff from one site.

I sure hope you meant to put the word "not" between "that" and "everyone"! As for the rest of the quote, it's really all about choices. If the choices are as clear-cut as eating or downloading, then that's an easy one. If it's a choice between smoking, drinking, HBO-ing or downloading, then it's tougher. But in those cases, it's not that someone "can't" pay; it's that they choose not to pay. IOW, they "won't" pay.
And sharing? For those who are struggling to eat, 50MB is a generous helping at the virtual download food kitchen. For those who choose to spend their money on other things, 50MB is just generous, period. WC and Stardock and those who post their work here don't need a lecture on sharing from anyone.
