Can I get some testers on a WB oddity?

Thursday, September 4, 2003 by eieio | Discussion: Skinning

Brainiac and I have run across a strange thing in my latest WB skin Romulus. On some systems, there is an alignment problem on the StartPanel. On some there is not. We suspect it may have to do with WindowBlinds version.
Can I get some volunteers to download these 2 skins and see if you get the mis-alignment on either and let me know which has the mis-alignment and what version of WB you are using.
I would appreciate any help or feedback.

Since it is Geocities, you may have to right click and 'Save Target as ...' to download these.

Your links are no good. They lead to a geocities 404 page However I will dl romulus from the library and test it.

Ok I have Romulus applied now. Not knowing what mis-allignment you are referring to, I'll tell you the only strange thing I see is the start panel program list menu is set too far to the right away from the left margin. Content margin set too far over? However it is still legible and functional. Btw, very nice skin! Love the deep purple color. Im running WB 4.10 on Win XP

crissy, did you try to right click on the links and click on 'Save Target as..'?

Oh, and thanks for the nice comment!

This may be a 4.1 bug.I measured the more programs graphic by making it solid black and opened a ss in PS.It is exactly 30 pix on XP with WB4.

yes. I tried both ways. Downloading it directly and choosing "save target as" on right click. Same results both ways.

WOW! Am I stupid! I thought you meant to right click on the web page that the link brings me to. . Duh! You meant right click on the links you provided. Please excuse the stupidity. (brainiac, no comment from you ) Well. ok I did it right this time and here are the results: places 152 has a miss-allignment of the graphic dividing the prog list and all progs. It appears to be "cracked". Places 150 seems alligned properly. However both files have the prog list conents too far to the right as I explained above. Did you mean it to be like this?

one more thing. Your shutdown dialog flag is completely un-skinned. It's magic pink.

crissy, do you mean it is showing as magic pink when you go to shut down?
I did make it all magic pink except for a small sliver at the bottom left, but it shouldn't show since the only 'colored' (as in not magic pink) part is in the middle portion.

Thanks for checking the links.

Michael, I think you're right. It's beginning to look like 4.1 is doing something different than earlier versions.

Oh, on the prog list. Are contents centered? Look at my shot on the page for Romulus to see what I mean. The contents are to the right some but should only be enough to the right to center them in the Prog list pane.

Yes the prog list contents are all centered just like in your screenshot( i see now that's how you intended it to be), but in my opinion the contents are too far away from the left margin. And yes, the shutdown flag is completly pink, as is the flag on logoff and wait screen.

Not sure why the flag is all pink. Have you opened it in SkinStudio or PS to see if it has the bottom left slice colored?

Yes pictoratus , I have opened it up in skin studio. The shutdown flag is pink with a bluish strip on the bottom left portion. I have found from experience that magic pink does not make the flag transparent, and that it's simpler to reduce the flag to 1x1 (pixels) so its virtually invisible. Then you can add whatever graphic or effect you want to the right upper corner of the shutdown/logoff/wait dialog

Thanks, I'll try that out. I'm not sure why I'm not getting the pink on mine. Sometimes skins act so different on different systems and it's so hard to figure why it does that.

I really appreciate you helping me out on this.

i found your problem, in p150 the right side panel is 190 x 150 and in p152 it is 190 x 152, off by two pixels, so i imported the one from 150 to 152 and evrery thing works fine now on my system!!
