female skinners

I am just wondering, are there any master female skinners? and how long will it take before females are recognized as equals as males on this site, and get promoted almost as fast as the males........ As a female, i personally dont believe that we are. I feel that its very hard to be recognized as a serious skinner being female......

The Hue slider in the Coloring section of WB, you can also change it by using the little button in your appearance tab in display properties.

There really aren't that many women to gather together - Jazzymjr and I do mini suites.
Someone mentioned that perhaps women by-pass WC because think of skinning as a male hobby/occupation/etc
While any skin can be recolored to suite anyones taste, a few weeks ago a young woman about 16 or 18 asked in forum for a Fairytale based Theme. I had to direct her to another site for the only 2 windowblinds I know of. There's just not enough interest in that type of skin to warrant anyone ( male or female ) to do one. So it would have to be done by someone that was making it for themselves or just because they wanted to make a Theme knowing it wouldn't be all that popular with a site full of men.
Remember, women do have their own money and like to spend it and will if they think they just ' have to have it "

Start more community projects. Gather together all the female skinners in a single group and start working on skins and suites. What's stopping you from forming an all-woman skinning studio? MaxStyles could use some competition!
Are you involved in other female-oriented online communities? Get them involved, try and bring in more people to fuel and promote the cause.
My point is that if it's an important issue to you, you need to start working to improve the situation too.

is simple to recolor a skin by using the default color changer in WB config.. adjusting hue,sat will achieve the desired results...without having to manually recolor a skins elements... fast and easy...

Workshop 4: Putting it all together
Workshop 5: Explain to Zubaz how it's so much harder than that
Most of the work by the user would be done between workshops. The workshops would be for the workshop leader to do some demonstrations but mostly just open discussion. It could be done mostly in IRC or a chatroom hosted almost anywhere. Maybe some web collaboration tool like yugma or webex could be used to share desktops or whatever. Or maybe just uploading works in progress to imageshack.us.
I dunno . . it's an idea (and not one just for women).

Not everyone has time or talent to skin (look at me) but in cases like that young lady . . I'd love to see something like a workshop for skinners started. I could see it done in chuncks:Workshop 1: Developing a theme

and a good one. When we did that at Skinartistry, it was mostly women. Many more were interested but getting everyone together at the same time was terribly cumbersome.
A video tutorial would do wonders.

While I can't give percentages, I suspect a majority of skinners skin for everyone else; meaning they tend to follow and emulate what is popular and gets a lot of attention, downloads, etc, as opposed to skinning for themselves. But, again with nothing to back it up but gut feeling, I suspect women do tend to skin more for themselves, what they like and want to use in a skin and are less concerned with downloads, popularity, etc.
Which leads me to also wonder how much popularity figures into promotion. If a skinner does very good work, is technically proficient, and does a complete job, but doesn't happen to make what is 'popular' at the time, do they get less notice by those that promote and tend to get passed by?

Lets face it no one wants to spend weeks making a windowblind that goes " Flop "
Its hard to really second guess all the time what will work and not work.
It does make you feel like the time invested was worth it when you see lots download something you make. But your right , I think women tend to not look at the downloads as much. Good thing too - took me years to get to 60,000 downloads ( I think thats what it is ) If I took that into consideration Id have left long ago..
As for not getting noticed..I do think that quite a few tend to not get noticed because they don't post much in forum. I do not believe its deliberate - just kind of not thought of until someone mentions it.

OK, from what I read, you need some market research...how 'bout Stardock emails ALL their subscribers and asks them to participate in a survey describing what they would like (don't exclude the men so's they don't feel discriminated against). Then, analyse the data separately (by male and female respondents) and find out what women want.
Alternatively, I could do a webpage and upload it to my site and you can tell me what to modify and add, and then just post a message or two on these forums asking for responses...
Or you could focus on profits and aim for the market you already appeal to .

I'm not sure I agree with you. I don't think Stardock can be the driver here. I think it needs to be a grassroots program of users telling their network about this place.I appreciate that you are making an effort to make a difference.

Just because there aren't many women skinners doesn't mean there aren't tons who customize, I believe the site has a healthy amount of females using the products and the art. There's nothing wrong with more men skinning than women, it's probably just how it is and will be, perhaps as the whole they have made the choice that other things in life are more interesting to them? Does the gender of the skinner even matter as long as the skin is quality?
