Windows Vista: Take the poll

What do you think of it?

Friday, July 22, 2005 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

On the bottom left on the home page of WinCustomize.com there is a poll being taken.  If you're a registered user of WinCustomize.com, please tell us what you think of the name, Windows Vista.  Windows Vista is the name Microsoft has given to its next version of Windows (previously called Longhorn).

Like it - vista gives the software a feel for the future ... it flows with "windows" ... Longhorn sounded Texan like (no offense).. too much like cattle

I totally agree... And the fact it just sounds plain cool.

Think about the major selling points (that are still in it): Aero, Indigo, Avalon, and the new Red Screen of Death to go along with the Blue one. Vista has a connection with sight, and that's a huge part of the new version. Joe User isn't going to care about all the new under-the-hood stuff that is the real work of putting together Vista. It's the look and feel of it all.

At least it isn't some sort of contrived pun like (the) Windows (e)XP(erience).

I guess my first impression was one of sound and not so much sight. v-i-s-t-a....I don't know, like Windows Tulip or Daisy. Just wimpy. Maybe if they come up with a fruity enough logo, you'll start seeing it in hollywood films instead of an apple.
Heck, Palm just did it with their new generation pop tart logo. Looks like it belongs on a can of orange soda.

Well, there was no "on the fence" option for the poll...

...so I chose "don't like it" ~since I dislike the name more than I like it. Wasn't a big fan of the name "Longhorn" either.

But, whatever they name it ~it just better be good!

I don't like it but it does connect with the idea of looking out of a window and on to a vista.

I can see how they will market it, but I just wish they came up with something better than Windows Vista.

Guys come on... The new name is super amazing... it has many and many meanings that all relate to windows as a componey and a user enviourment... Vista is a common word that is used in many many languages...

So guys, please stop nagging about the new name... It's great and I liked it, not because "I" want it but because it means something to all of us...

don;t understand me wrong guys... have fun with Windows Vista (Windows V)

Windows Avalon

Here's a little background behind the name "Longhorn" for those who are interested... Windows XP was originally codenamed "Whistler". After XP, the next version of windows was dubbed "Blackcomb". Both Whistler and Blackcomb were supposedly taken from the names of two adjacent mountains... in British Columbia i think... However, Microsoft decided that they weren't ready to release BlackComb yet, so they started an intermediary version. They decided to call this intermediary version "Longhorn", named after a bar which is coincidentally located between the two mountains, whistler and blackcomb. So "Longhorn" really isn't in reference to cattle, rather, its a kind of symbolic name taken from a bar that is "between" whistler and blackcomb, thus "Longhorn" or rather Windows Vista now, is the version of windows between the release of whistler (windows XP), and blackcomb

Windows Crystal would be far of a better solution than vista. Vista sounds like we are on the disco age lol.
