Should WinCustomize support IM goodies?

Sunday, April 10, 2005 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Instant Messenger, etc. have all kinds of interesting "goodies" that you can download of them. Avatars, Emoticons, Winks, Backgrounds, etc. And probably even more than we're thinking of.

The question is, should WinCustomize have a section to support these kinds of things? Let us know.

It would be great for IM's to be included on Wincustomize! You could organize it so that you only have to click on an IM section this would presemt you with a list of IM's to choose (and i mean any and all IM's that can be customized not just MSN and AOL (although i only use MSN))from and then you can pick from a list of what the goodies actually are "skins, emoticons, etc" It would be excellent, mainly because the new MSN 7 has plenty of tools and other addon programs but there are hardly any skins out there and the ones you can find rarely work!

No please. I come to WinCusto for WB skins, IconPackager sets and CursorXP themes. If I were at all interested in Avatars, Emoticons, Winks, or Backgrounds (which I'm definitely not), I'd got to a site like deviantART.com or something.

Does WC need the traffic? Does it want the traffic?
Will it drive business to Stardock? Otherwise . . . pass on IM.

I'd like to see Stardock come up with it's own IM client.

I have a website with some interesting warnings about IM and Yahoo messengers. I won't put a plug in for my site here, but there is a lot of viruss out there, and also trogens and worms being written for IM and yahoo messengers. So I would be careful what I added for a potential dangerous program. Just a thought !!

An IM section with different subsections for various images or plugins would be nice. Personally I vote for having a gaim section.

I vote against adding IM client skins and associated frou-frou. It seems like there are so many clients, and so many other items to go along with them that if you wanted to do it right a better idea would be an entire dedicated site. Would there be a section where folks could share their scripts for advertisment spamming?

Mr terry696 - I don't see what harm can be in adding skins for the IM programs. After all we have a screensaver section here - a section many were against. But the new section would just host skins that's all.
