Global poll slams Bush leadership

More than half of people surveyed in a BBC World Service poll say the re-election of US President George W Bush has made the world more dangerous.
Only three countries - India, Poland and the Philippines - out of 21 polled believed the world was now safer.
The survey found that 47% now viewed US influence in the world as largely negative and such unfavourable feelings extended towards Americans as a whole.
None of the countries polled supported contributing their troops to Iraq.
"Negative feelings about Bush are high and are generalising to the American people who re-elected him."
On average across all countries, 58% of people - and 16 out of 21 countries polled - said they believed Mr Bush's re-election to the White House made the world more dangerous.

Your post made me realize that more people are
finding their way to parts of the truth.
I can't tell you how stubbornly I believed
that what Hollywood taught was the "truth".
I mean, Schwarzenegger IS fighting "crazy
islamic terrorists" in True Lies!
That meme was set after Russia fell together
and Hollywood could no longer use Russia as supplier of "bad guys"
for the people to be scared of.
New "enemies" were needed. Because without "enemies"
how can the corporate weapon industries make money if
no one is killing someone else?
And now China and Iran will be used as new useful "bad guys"
in order to scare people to keep silent and not
question what they are being "served".
After all, Cheney wouldn't want more people to learn
about the military "exercises" he oversaw on 9/11.
Especially now that he is being sworn in as VP
for four more years. I mean, we can't have the truth
come and destroy everything, right? VP is a pretty
well paid job.

Gee we are not POPULAR with the world... lemmee cry as I sit in my heated new home,lieing on my nice comfortable select comfort bed, after eating a great meal....safe in my home... Also it is not the USA that was the target for the poll,
it was "W" Bush. I find that most people think that
americans in general seem to be nice people.
Maybe a little starry-eyed when it comes to buying
into the regular hollywood/tv propaganda but never "bad".
Don't confuse the ones governing a country with the people
of that country, they are not the same. That's the sad truth
of most western "democracies" today.

I agree wholeheartedly, starfish. There is a world of difference between the people running the states, and the general populace. It's when the former whips the latter into a frenzy that things get ugly. I've never been mistreated by individual Americans, and only mildly annoyed by those who identify themselves solely with the will of their government.
If we were to tell our population to up and leave if they didn't like our Prime Minister, they'd just laugh. The same should be true in the states, but that sort of rhetoric has actually become vile and serious. People who disagree with the government are wholly unwelcome. And that's scary

That doesn't describe the U.N. at all. The U.N. won't even fully cooperate in the oil-for-food investigation. They U.N. is a worthless organization that the world would be better without.

Are you saying that it was ok for the U.S. government to sell biological weapons to Saddam, but countries trading food for oil so the Iraqi people could survive were doing wrong?
When Madeleine Albright said that she thought that over 500.000(!) dead children "was worth it" to keep the trade sanktions against Iraq going, I knew that there were a lot of things going on that was not right, not one bit.
Please explain, since I have no idea of how you are reasoning.

The UN seemed to have a good idea in not sending all their member countries to war over false pretenses. They knew WMDs didn't exist, which Georgy boy finally admitted to recently. Of course, the war continues. Exacting revenge for 9/11 and eliminating all forms of evil will take exactly as long as it'll take to completely control Iraq and turn it into a parking lot.
I'd say the UN did a great job, in its hard desicion, and saved a lot of lives. Lives lost were the responsibility of, surprise, a country acting out against the UN's wishes. That deficit the states is carrying could have been a worldwide economic collapse had we all jumped on the bandwagon.

. The only thing is, currently the Nation is being run by somebody who is wasting $150 Billion in Iraq, while our debt is OVER 7 TRILLION DOLLARS. My only problem is that he not only carrying out his "plans", HE GOT REELECTED! My lack of (positive) excitement is toward Mr. Bush, not the USA. I'm proud to be an American!

Please, RTCP, let's summarize my anti-american statements. As I see it thus far, I've lamented on Bush, the war, and the outrightly hostile way in which people who don't agree with the US government are being treated. Myself included, it seems. There's a difference between the people running the country, and the people living in the country. What we're talking about here is the former. Don't forget that. Your leader is not the end all and be all of your country. That's why he doesn't win votes by 100%. Well, that, and it'd look suspicious. It's never a good idea to rig a landslide.
I've found myself defending Canada's position on human rights and our ability to fend for ourselves on the world stage. Funny how that should come under fire when our topic is Bush. I've defended the UN for their decision not to fall into Bush's folly, and with simple logic. A lot of countries in a war equals a lot more bodies than what we have now. Is that anti-american thinking?

I don't trust most people I don't know. It's not that they are untrustworthy, it's that I don't know them and there are untrustworthy people in the world. I don't know George W, or any world leaders enough to trust them. We get whatever biased media they want us to get. So for me, I trust the one who made the earth and try not to solve all of the worlds problems. If I can help someone in a small way in my circle of life, I feel like I have accomplished something. But I do give respect and honor to those in authority, as is their due based on the position. I can vote against them in the next election if I am in disagreement.
