Dates:
Milestone 9 (platform complete) - 16th March 2005
Beta 1 - 25th May 2005
Beta 2 - 12th October 2005
Release Candidate 0 - 22nd February 2006
Release Candidate 1 - 12th April 2006
Release To Manufacturing - 24th May 2006

So....looking for a release sometime 2008 then right? At least, after all the schedule tweaks that they'll have to make...

Bill has enough money, trash windows just modify Linux to be more userfriendly.

OS X is based on Darwin (FreeBSD with a Mach microkernel)
It has little to do with Linux apart from the fact that they're both UNIX based OSes.
And Apple did more than just skin it.

Wheeee, Longhorn. Erm... still wanna know if the technology behind WGF will be backported to XP/2003. As much as I'd love to use Longhorn's fancy GUI, I'd like to see the old GDI+ code scrapped for good or be replaced with an API wrapper to the WGF engine. At least, from a performance point of view, everything "should" run smoother, especially applications specializing in effects like WindowFX.

XP is the best Product? Uh, yeah. Make that no. Best marketing that's unquestionable, but still a crap OS. I use both OSX and XP, and OSX beats XP no question. If MS gets its act together and ditches all the legacy support (a lot of the problem from what I understand) does a full rewrite to cleanse Windows of all the bandaid stuff that makes it crash, then we would be in business. But I hear Longhorn is just another "good code on top of bad" story. Hope not because I am looking forward to some improvements, but we'll see... for now its just Vaporware.

No need to bash. OSX is a fine piece of code but works on a smaller and hardware controlled userbase. Let OSX userbase grow to handle 250M users (50x more), infinite number of configurations and we'll see.

Finally someone with common sense.
If you have problems with XP its you.....not the OS. I use my computer for work and play throughout the day and seldom encounter a problem. I look forward to the release of Longhorn regardless of how long it takes them.

I really wonder about all the people bashing Windows so hard what they do on Wincustomize. Learn how to set it up right and XP will run like a charm for You, too PERIOD
