Anyone really know how to get rid of gophers????????

We "had" this beautiful front yard, no grass, stones, and a rock river, with all kinds of cactus, flowering sage, a huge agave, et. We have lost the agave, the little b..guy ate up all the inside, I sure hope he had a hangover! 
Now he is working on our australian bottle tree, a beautiful tree it was, now it is very stressed 
Have tried trapping, putting bubblegum down the holes, even poured a bottle of ammonia and then bleach, thought I got him, but he popped up after a few days. Sounds cruel, I don't like killing anything, but he is destroying all the plants > My neighbor said that he and a friend of his, when living in Montana, tried to get rid of a gopher by putting propane down the hole and lighting a match 
"Caddy Shack" I guess was more true to life then I realized
Anyway, this is a serious question, if any of you have any ideas, or have had the problem yourselves and know the answer

Have you tried visiting your local home supply/hardware store? We call ours Home Depot. My friend tells me that there is a stick which you can put down the hole and it will smoke them out. She says either they leave or die, she is not sure.

OK, I asked my dad, old country guy. He says to feed them Juicy Fruit gum. No kidding! It's gonna kill them though. Between that and the lime you shouldn't have a gopher problem any more.

uhmmmm, I certainly hope you don't take seriously the 'gasoline down the holes' suggestion. I worked for the VFD for awhile and a woman literally blew up her back yard doing that and got 3rd degree burns in the process. Very dangerous.

"dusting off' is a term usually adopted with helicopters....and in the case of Aliens it was the 'drop ship', a futuristic equivalent....it means 'taking off'....

Use either mothballs down the holes (no vermin will go near them) or if that doesn''t work (and there are no helicopters available) then go with a generous dose of napalm...(no dusting required)

use a small nuclear device on em. Not only will you kill them you might want to think about moving. I hear radiation posioning is a nasty business.
