The GUI Olympics: One month...
Friday, April 2, 2004 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I'm not speaking for Stardock. I'm speaking for myself.  I'm pretty disappointed with the GUI Olympics so far.
Not so much the entires. There are some outstanding entries so far.  But the quantity so far has been lacking. Not in terms of # of skins per skinner but the number of skinners.
Winamp: 11 skins. Most of which are classic.
IconPackager: 7 icon packages.
WindowBlinds: 45
The people participating are doing some great work. But I'm becoming a bit concerned about the number of skinners participating. Are there a lot of entries still in development? I hope so. Because I got all kinds of emails from people asking for another GUI Olympics. I didn't want to do one. It's a lot of extra work for me and Pat. But we went ahead and did it and managed to get a bunch of big name sponsors this time.
What I'd like to know is how many of you reading this have submissions that are pending still.  Because if we end up with the contest only having say 15 to 20 people total participating, then I'd say it was not worth it. Where are all the other skinners. Where are the Winamp skinners? Where are the WB skinners? Where are the Icon authors? Are they still working on stuff or is there just not that much interest in contests like these?

I am so exited!! We have a little less than a month, I wonder what is going to be put up next?
I really wonder what people will think about my theme. Its sort of wierd... I should be finished soon.

BoXXi wonders how someone came to think of him as a "Big Gun"......?? Flattering, but most certainly untrue. Is my name in that list on the right? No. And to suggest I may receive special treatment in the judging makes me very angry. I can assure you that I too am in awe of the "real" big guns, but don't expect them to be treated any differently to the rest of us. And I also predict that I will win precisely nothing. That won't bother me, it's been fun making the skins, and even more fun to see and download the amazing entries so far.
I am certain of one thing though...... the best skins WILL win, and there should be no arguments from anyone when they do. The best skins just shine.... we know which ones they are, they are the ones we ordinary mortals wish WE could have made...... hehe..
Lets just enjoy the fun and the wonderful skins eh?

If people really think that Boxxi is getting special treatment should take a look at his work. I think it speaks for itself. Heck, even if he was getting special treatment he has earned it. Good stuff!

Big Guns? This is something that only have in the mind of some people...as BoXXi well said, it also anoys me...it looks that our hard work is nothing more then a previlegied favoritism for some kind of admin...an that, for sure is not true.
To me, a "big gun" is nothing more then a Magnum 44

"This is a Treetog 44.... it could blow your skin clean off. Now, I know what you're thinking, did he make 5 incredible skins or did he make 6? Well, to be honest, in all the excitement I kinda forgot myself. So, what you have to consider is,  do I feel lucky? Well punk......do ya?"
Beware the Tog......hehe.
