It's begining to become a bit tiresome even if it's not dramatical ...
Could any admin take a look at who's going on this way ??

Post #30 was edited to "..." because I thought it best not to continue the argument.

And also what "Mr. Gary" said...

| I suppose I'd feel differently about his uploads if eight months from now that's all he was still doing but for now, what's the big hairy deal if he ports something another author has granted him permission to play with? I don't see him porting YOUR work, or have I missed something? |
What about what you said about 'uploading one or two'...There are far more in his library than that...
As for Porting my work...True, SD was by no means a 'Top Quality' skin...Particularly because it was my first Windowblind...and I had no previous expeirence with graphic programs (other than paint) or skins...

'peoples'...plural?
My Apologies Kona,
...I was not trying to be 'insulting' as such...rather, I was trying to make a certain person see 'reason.'

I understand it gets frustrating sometimes to see alot of ports showing up, but like I said it's not like he's been porting for a year now still doing the same thing over and over. it's less than four months since he started posting these things. I was hoping maybe he'd reallize that quality is always more important than quantity in the future, but I don't fault him for what he's done so far. By "YOUR" work I was referring to several people in general who have posted comments regarding his ports. and I was referring to the fact that it wasn't anyone's work who didn't want their work ported.(I know how that sentence looks but can't think of a better way to say it.)
You , event horizon, were very brave and are very talented to have created your first skin and managed toget it posted to the library. Kudos to you for both skill and bravery. Not everyone is so brave or talented in the beginning.

Keep in mind that not everyone here gets paid for doing this. If I had a paycheck for skinning, I couldn’t care less if I got a '1' rating and 10 downloads a year. So ratings are a big part of the compensation of our hard work and time.
I can understand a skin (not counting screenshots) that has little appeal or very poor design getting a below average rating. But I have seen (and gotten) my share of below average ratings on skins that should be quite above a '7' and I think this is what enrages people about ratings. The fact that a few ignorant with nothing better to do go around lowering ratings is a hard pill to swallow. Never the less a quick email to an admin can solve the problem.
So, YES.. Ratings are very important to everyone that shares their work here. Keep in mind that low ratings keeps the design away from the public view of unregistered/unsigned users, therefore it results in low downloads which eliminates the purpose of uploading.

A_67.....it all gets 3 shades of silly when it's about the ratings of screenshots.
Perhaps they need to be moderator-only...

In case you didn't know it, the rating system has recently changed. Not every rating has the same weight anymore. If a Master rates a skin, it has more weight than if a Apprentice rates one. This system was to help stop just the sort of things that you mentioned.
The notice was given on the messageboard awhile ago by Frogboy, to stop rating abuse by newcomers. I'm too tired to find the particular thread, but it is here somewhere.

Carl....does 'SSGoku' signify anything unsavoury [ignoring the 'SS', that is]?
Policy should be that Nicks do not cause issues of discrimination or whatever....eg 'Hitler Youth' would not be considered 'appropriate'....

Honestly I don't think it's a matter of wanting a "high" rating, as wanting the shot to be visible to others. Anything below a 6 is not visible to those who aren't subscribers. But honestly I think the thread here on the message board (March Screenshots sticky thread) is a much better way of showing off your ability to match skins into a theme, and probably gets viewed by a much larger audience.
on porting other's work,
A very wise admin here once told me I could learn my way around skin studio much easier by porting another's skin into something slightly different, but to make sure that if I uploaded it, I had that author's permission. I was also told best to make as many ports as I wanted to, but only upload one or two, until I learned how to create my own. Which made much sense, as too many "copys" of another's work tends to get a person a reputation for not having an idea of his/her own that they must copy someone else's work all the time. I took those words to heart and will eventually have something worth uploading. Meanwhile, I will continue to practice with what skins I have available. Kona's ports are something he is proud of, as a beginning skinner. I suppose I'd feel differently about his uploads if eight months from now that's all he was still doing but for now, what's the big hairy deal if he ports something another author has granted him permission to play with? I don't see him porting YOUR work, or have I missed something?
