Ratings in general and Screenshots ratings particurarly

Sunday, March 14, 2004 by neophil78 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Since a while someone is playing with ratings, and give systematicly bad ratings to skins (screenshots) that are fine / very fine so they are to 4 or 5 instead of 8 or 9 which should be the right rating ... Just a few examples :
https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=13&SkinID=4348 (rating 4 at this time )
https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=13&SkinID=4343
https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=13&SkinID=4347
https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=13&SkinID=4325
It's begining to become a bit tiresome even if it's not dramatical ...
Could any admin take a look at who's going on this way ??

EventHorizon, you are right for skins, except these are screenshots. You don't download screenshots. They are there just to look at.

well isn't that all most skins are...to look at. Some add functionallity, but in reality they mostly just change the appearence. However you don't use a screenshot...you do a skin.

but in truth it is all in fun as skinning should be.

Getting lots of downloads on a skin you 'made with your own hands' is a hundred+ times more satisfying than getting a good number on someone elses skin that you uploaded.

getting a good number of downloads on a "port" I did as a request for a few people is also just as satisfing.

(sigh)

kona0197 thinks he will have the last laugh when he has his first WB up on WC.

A screenshot is just a means to an end...it's hardly an end in itself...

How would you know, have you ever made a skin? No, you havent...Porting someone elses work is NOT the same thing as creating your own WB from scratch.

No need for harsh words....

However, I am making one right now.

Porting teaches one how to use SKS.

(and besides, my ports have more DL counts than your skins. I must be doing something right.)

Well if all is in fair play...

Eventhorizon, did you take your own photos for your wallpapers?

Did you get permission to recolor Luna from MS?

We can sit here all night long and pick on each others skins and works but it comes down to one simple point: Skinning IS supposed to be fun.

It is not about ratings, rather about creativity and expression of one's mind to encompass an idea of art.

So just let it be man...

In the time it takes one to figure out how silly ratings can be, and how trival ratings can be, one could have made a skin already.

Just be thankful your skins are here in the first place.

yrag, thats one reason they almost didn't put in the edit feature, so someone couldn't make other people look like an idiot.

You left kona out on a limb.

Perhaps this edit feature needs some adjustment.

The idea of it is NOT so people can insult or disadvantage/confuse others.
