SKIN RIP ??

Tuesday, February 17, 2004 by Michael Brandt | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Where goes the fine line for a skin to be a rip??

The WB Skin "Pearlblue" is basically a recolored version of my own "M3 Blueglass" skin. 9 out of 10 elements i have made. And I am mentioned nowhere.

What do u think ???

Evil Emperor Surg sits quietly and avoids the crossfire

my opinion that this is a rip still stands. look at the quick launch part of the task bar, the dots are exactly similar, that may not be saying much, but its definitely ripped.

Make up your mind....sit quietly or clarify the absurdity 'exactly similar'.

.... and 'definitely ripped' is more than 'not saying much', it's an accusation.

look at TaskbarQuickLaunch.BMP or ToolbarButton.bmp in both skins and you can not deny it´s a rip.

ComboboxDropDownButton.bmp
ListViewHeader.bmp
MenuBar.bmp
MenuBarItem.bmp
panelbuttons.bmp
ProgressBar.bmp
PushButton.bmp
RadioButtonNew.bmp
TaskbarQuickLaunch.bmp
ToolbarButton.bmp

...

all recolors. and that´s not even half of the ripped BMPs. i did not even look at the TGAs.
if this is not a rip, selling color variations of Pixtudio skins might be a good idea

Yes both 'appear' to originate from the same source.

Seems every man and his dog is a past master at determining absolutes...now, as I said, as long as there is not a third skin out there which BOTH were derived from you 'may' have a case.

The issue with public finger poking is that myopia 'may' result in hitting the wrong target.

What say this is left in the Admin's hands, OK?...

"third skin out there which BOTH were derived from"

so what? of course both might be rips (i believe Michael though). then PearlBlue is still a rip.

OK, knickers can be unknotted now.....it's been dealt with.

Must be fun doing your knitting in the front row at a public beheading....the fine mist spray of warm blood....

Protocol for Rip Notification....

Step one....find it.

Step Two....email an Admin.

Step three....wait patiently.

Step Four....email appreciation....

Seems like I've "split the fairway" with this one...

But believe it or not... My original question has not been answered yet: Where goes the fine line for a skin to be a rip??

Lets suppose im really telling the truth; is Pearlblue considered a rip then? Remember: I've not accused anyone of having ripped anything, i've just stated that I've made many of the elements in Pearlblue. Im totally new to this, so I would like to know when a skin is a rip and when its not. So that in future i can go through the four steps that JAFO has described if necessary.

JAFO: In short: Define a rip. Thanks !

im not jafo but i can do it:::

a rip is any thing that has been taken from another persons design and edited/modified and submitted without the original authors permission.

so, if i was to take your skin and modify the bmps and make a skin for myself, i wouldnt be able to submit it without it being a rip.

(how did i do)

i tried that last time i was ripped here. took four days, which is pretty much a record among all sites. so i can´t really recommend that protocol.
the reason i posted references to all the ripped images was all that useless blubber for more than 50 posts. it is a rip, what could be clear since post #1. if somebody (an admin for example) would have looked closely at the skins BEFORE posting there would have been no need for a debate.

yeah but then we would wait 5 weeks to get work moderated instead of the usual 5 days

While you all have been making your 'points' I've dealt with this and another you are unaware of as it was handled CORRECTLY via email.

Surg....you have mail.  Heed it.

moshi....don't insult me...I took one hell of a lot longer to look at all the images than you - quite a while ago - BEFORE stating my 'opinion'.

Email takes time, sure....but it is about common respect for ALL parties before hanging one, or other, or both out to dry.

If it takes 5 days then tough titties....at least it gets done, and to the best of our ability and almost always without error.

Michael Brandt....definition of a RIP?

The skin no longer publicly accessible.

Why?

Because dialogue was entered into with the appropriate party.

Next time....do it by email and no noses will be out of joint...
