'Angel' gets cancelled.

After 5 seasons, it looks like 'Angel' has followed its parent show 'Buffy' into the great abyss. In a statement just released from The WB, they say that the current season will be the last. This move drives a stake through the heart of the final remaining part of Joss Whedon's 'Buffyverse', and will come as a huge shock to its many fans.
As someone who has unashamedly followed both shows since the beginning, I find this a really sad move on the part of the network. With this news coming in the same year that 'Friends' and 'Frasier' have finally been axed, it looks like we really are coming to the end of a great era in television history.
Are there any fans of Whedon's work here, and if so what future do you think the whole 'Buffyverse' has beyond the end of 'Angel'?

i dont watch TV, it rots yur brain..i instead sit here in front of my pc mindlessly surfin and watchin videos of peeps playing symphonies with bicycle horns strapped to they bodys...

I think both have run their respective courses ... never much of a Buffy 'fan' (as distinct from an 'S-M.G one!) but I do think Angelus was a bit darker and different!
I'm just pleased to find that Witchblade is running again out here ... at 1.30AM but that's typical of TV programming.

Kelsey Grammar is getting paid £2 million for each show, wouldn't you pull the plug on it....?
To many Actors/ Actresses are asking way to much money, to much greed these days. Nice way to make a living £2 million for 30 minutes

I've been a fan of Whedon's shows for quite some time, and have been buying each DVD set as each is released. I enjoyed Buffy, then thought for the most part Angel was even better, and lastly thought his latest and sadly short-lived creation, Firefly, was the best of all. It seemed he he got better with each successive show, figuring out what worked and what didn't work.
The network at least gave him a heads-up that it was happening so he could at least give the show a fair send-off. Though I realize that's small comfort (but better than the treatment Farscape got as result of it's two squabbling parent companies)
There is the carrot held out by Warner Bros of suggesting TV movies next year, though I think that unlikely. I also was never big on the idea of a Faith spinoff, at leat, given the basic premise I read about. And it seems the Ripper series has been shelved indefinitely. So the only thing I'm holding out for now, hoping against the odds, is a Firefly movie.
As for continuing stories in the Buffyverse, Whedon has been writing his Frey comic book about a slayer in the future. I haven read any of it yet, but I believe what issues have been published have been recently compiled into a compendium graphic novel

You don't think he actually works for 30 minutes and goes home, do you? I agree that £2 million is an extortionate amount to pay someone, but he's good at what he does and therefore deserves to get what he asks for.
Thankfully we have the two upcoming Farscape TV movies to look forward to. That's another show which deserved to live beyond its short lifespan.
They were good, but unfortunately over far too soon. It was never conceived as an ongoing series, but rather as a short glimpse into the future of the Buffyverse.
Well... this could perhaps be the catalyst that finally sparks this spin-off to life. The BBC are getting behind Sci-Fi again with Doctor Who, so their plans to finance Ripper could very well go ahead if they succeed with this first attempt.

Well, it actually depends on how much the network is making off the show too.
Kelsy might be getting 2 mil, but how much does the show make every half an hour?
Anyway, I liked Angel and Buffy too. I never saw Firefly... or heard of it before today.

Well, it actually depends on how much the network is making off the show too.

Sorry to hear Angel is leaving, but after this years episodes, I have been very disappointed. I liked the show better when they were all at the hotel. The only good I have saw of this season is when Cordelia Chase came back (so to speak) she was a ghost after all. Or was She?
