What do you think about Nuclear Weapons?
Monday, November 24, 2003 by joetheblow | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I think they are passé. There is no reason to develop better ones or for that matter make more of them.
I can think of one reason to make better ones and that is to blow up asteroids or meteors that threaten the Earth with impact.
A nuclear bomb is not going to scare a terrorist because terrorist use different tactics and use the community as their shield/catalyst.
So is there any reason why someone would approve new better nuclear bombs?

Or you could say that I have seen so much death and destruction on the news and in the papers over the years, that I've become quite the misanthrope.

All we have to do is decide we want the best reality for everyone no matter what color, sexual orientation, nationality, faith....
I find it sad that someone who can see what you see and feel what you feel has found them self at the point that they feel the death of humanity would be the best thing for anything or reason...
thats all...

Lets take a look at something for a moment...
Trees are cut everyday removing the filtering system for Carbon Dioxide and some other Green House gases. The land is turned into cattle ranches, and in time the rain washes away all of the nutriants. They flow into the Oceans causing havoke with Ocean life, be it fish, mammal or plant. In turn the building Gases cause the temp of the Air to rise and Ice mass melts causing large amounts of fridged fresh water to flow into the oceans coveyors which will cause them to shut down causing an new Ice age. There has been border line proof discovered that the Earth not only has had extended Ice masses durring past Ice ages, but the Whole planet was in fact totally covered with ice which was 6 - 10 feet thick at it's thinest points, the area around the Equator.
We know this and yet we ignore it and give all kinds of stupid reasoning as to why we should ignore the facts...
There are many other things we know and do the same thing with.
But, at some point we will come around to accepting the truth and acting upon it in the correct manner....
Money isn't the root of all evil, it is at the root of most stupidity though in a global aspect. But it doesn't end there, Nationalism also plays a hand it this because ones nation has to be well off for the people to be well off, and yet the social structure of nations is such that a few have to be really really wealthy for anyone else to have enough to live beyond poverty, and for many more to live in poverty.
The social dynamic and the social contract are defunct, nationalism is defunct and governments have not kept pace with society and the human race at large.
Something, many things, need to be changed, to what exactly id o not have a clue. But what is in place might have worked in the past but it didn't keep pace and it is serioualy broken and we will find that more and more as time speeds ahead and it falls further behind...
WWIII will come about and it will revolve around money and the good old hard line nationalism of old. I would like to think that will not come about, but the steps down that path are picking up pace everyday and the move faster each new year.
But, with all of that, the more people who give up, the less people are there to support the changes that need to come about...
anyway...
I'll go back to being ineffectual and inane...

Well I CAN spell and even understand the meaning of the words ..... 'HATE CALIFORNIA' .... now there is a message from someone with a serious problem, nukes are no joking matter.
| Or you could say that I have seen so much death and destruction on the news and in the papers over the years, that I've become quite the misanthrope |
It's much more attention getting when you see it close up and personal crae.
Governments really have no need of nukes .... certain factions do very well with Semtex or C4, machettes and even airliners ... the Pol Pot regime made extensive use of commom garden variety hammers!
Nuclear weapons destroyed the Soviet Bloc without being used in anger, the sheer amount of money involved in keeping up with the West did the job.
Mind you, the number of nuclear reactors sitting in rusting hulls on the bottom of the Murmansk Naval Base is more frightening than any weapon.
ASIO reports (CIA, MI5, NSA, insert your own choice!)on the number of 'missing' warheads from the old Soviet can get one's attention as well, obviously there are plenty of disciples of free trade in Eastern Europe.
'Owning' a nuclear arsenal is a status symbol .... just ask the French why the need one.
Me?
Cynical!!
Damn straight.

hey it was a joke (about california)
I know nukes are no laughing matter. the thought of nuclear war scares the **** out of me.
Probably because I live in a town where we produce titanium. One of the only plants left.

that or something deep in the jungles that will end up coming out once we cut down trees making a path to it...
some government will get it, after claming the village or city that it wipes out was in fact hit by Ebola or some such, and either weaponize it, or not and it will end up getting loose. Hell the Anthrax used in the mail was from the US Army labs... neat huh?

| well if your town is lucky, the jobs doing that won't end up in China for the most part.. |
we get our ore from overseas, and 1 plant has already been shut down due to mergers. But I doubt they will move all production overseas.

By the way, Kona, don't you mean uranium instead of titanium?

| not really. man has done more to harm this planet then any other form of life. things like pullution, cloning, cutting down rain forests, genetic research, mutatations... all of that man has done or is doing and the planet is suffering. |
Regardless of wether its ethical or not, how does cloning harm the planet? Why not clone some more trees for that deforestation problem?
I would also like to bring to your attention that genetic research not only feeds much of the planet but it also provides solutions to pullution. Very much of the food you eat on a day to day basis is a GMO or genetically modified organism. While many people preach the supposed side effects of these GMOS they forget that without these price of food would be a lot more than what you see now today. Genetics also helps clean up oil fields by using genetically modified bacteria to decompose the oil. There is also research being done to creating organisms that will help decompose garbage more quickly.
Also, mutation is a very natural part of life. It's how organisms adapt to their surroundings over great periods of time. Mutations are what cause some certain people to be immune to life threatening diseases such as HIV. But its a double-edged sword. Mutation is also what causes cancer and its also what allows disease causing bacteria and viri to evolve and become resistant to treatment. The statement that man is accountable for natural things like mutation is just not valid considering. And considering all the resources out there about these topics, it really disheartens me to read such ill-educated remarks.

nukes are neither good nor evil. the human race is decidedly evil. perhaps we should mix the two with great caution.

Axil change would also be a shocker to see take place.
But then again, there are a number of nature driven possibilities for total destruction of live as we know it.
Heck the whole of the US East Coast line could be changed dramatically with a single suitcase nuke placed in a fault that runs along a semi-dormant Volcanic Island right off the African Coast. It would cause almost a third of the Island to slid into the Sea which would cause a Tsunomi(spelling) something like 600 to 700 feet tall moving over 600 mph to head to the West. When it hit the Americas it would reach as far north as New York and as far south as mid South America. They claim it would travel up to 100 miles in land in lower areas and totally change the coast line.
neat huh?
Boy gotta love them nukes combine with the power of nature...
Yeah humans are the only thing evil on this planet, kind of kizmit though considering we created the whole concept and all...
