When will this site get fixed?

Wednesday, October 1, 2003 by whoredom | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Ok so the site looks pretty broken at the moment, wouldnt it be a good idea to post a message on the front page of the site explaining what is going on? If any new people come to the site now, they just think it is a site put together by some 15yr old in his bedroom with broken links all over the shop. Surely this will eventually have an effect on Stardocks sales.

whoredom, I work for Stardock.  Stardock.com and Wincustomize.com are two very different sites.  Please look at the whole picture before claiming that somebody is not doing their job.  Stardock is moving and upgrading all our sites.  The sites are being transferred from one server to another at different co-los.  This takes time.  We are also massively asp driven, which means that there *will* be database glitches that we will iron out.  There are no code changes to the site.  I think that you do not know what is involved with all this.  Stardock has *many* websites that all work together and all share a huge database.  This is not a small task, and it is not just one single person involved.  We have a person physically at the co-lo and a team of people here working on it.  This isn't a small website.  We serve around 25 terabytes of files a month and have around 2 million unique visitors per month. We required bigger servers and more bandwidth to continue maintaining the site.

We are making every effort to keep everything functional, especially for the contributors to the site and paid customers.

I have previously posted a sticky thread pertaining to the situation.  Please post to that thread.

If you're going to throw something at me, at least make it lasagne or pizza. I had a fantastic lasagne last night after I'd drunk way too much. You didn't need to know that.

Keila servers grayhaze up a nice Prime Rib dinner. The protein may help that slight hangover.

Site works perfectly if you are a WC subscriber or Stardock customer.

It's the freebie server that's in transition.
