Very Upset...

Tuesday, June 3, 2003 by Zodiaq~ | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm feeling extremely upset. Another skinner from this site (you know who you are) stole one of my graphics from my "Blue Pearl" skin and is using it. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to say any names, just looking for advice on the matter.

I would never make such a controversial statement unless I was 100% sure. I have taken and reproduced the stolen graphic many times, the pixel pattern is almost exact, it can be reproduced quite easily with just using layer styles in Photoshop.

What can I do?

I know how he feels I use Bryce and I love MetaBalls..But Sometimes I feel that my meta balls might look like someone elses, I know I did it from scratch, But I still get that little queasy feeling when I realize it looks sorta like someone elses work...Even though I did it all myself...Im sorry you feel ripped off..I know your principal on the situation, And I have felt the delima...Drop125

Actually you admins should 'promote' DM to clear his name completely!

7 skins and 2 walls, almost 100,000 downloads in 138 days. Not too bad. If you only knew the sacrifices I have made in my life to contribute. For what? This?

Maybe I was wrong in my approach. I was very upset when I saw the button and perhaps reacted emotionally rather than rationally.

I am even more upset the way people on this message board treat other people. Including the admins. Nothing but eye rolls and sarcasm. It seems the admins like to fuel the controversy as much as a few of the people that have nothing better to do than live on this message board, bump threads to keep the controversial stuff up top because they have nothing more to contribute to WC than a few ignorant statements.

Madice...opinions are like a**holes and yours do not matter. Read them again, they are designed to keep threads alive. You're everywhere on this board and it's always the same thing. One suggestion: Wipe Jafo's s**t off your nose.

wombat_1...It's statements like yours and Madice that make people want to leave. You're brilliant.

Darkmist, I in no way tried to ruin your reputation, as Jafo said there were no names mentioned.

As far as anyone that posted in this thread in regards to the button, I'm sorry but your opinions are just that. I don't believe any of you(including myself) are qualified Graphics Professionals and cannot make an absolute assesment.

There are only 3 opinions that would have closed the case for me and that would be:

Treetog, Alexandrie and MikeB314, for they are truly professional. Worlds apart from any others here. The rest (including me) are just, so so. We all know it.

Hey wombat_1...I'm leaving early. The lights are out.

Booo...hoooo...hooo... Excuse me while I wipe the tears from my eyes. ! If you actually make sacrifices in your REAL life for this...well, it's your loss.

Zodiaq~: Perhaps you should have addressed Treetog, Alexandrie or MikeB314 directly at the beginning. I think others have made valid comments on your issue. I must say that it is clear that you have thought about, and reacted to, this issue with lack of reserve, rather than with poise and true desire to resolve it in a mature and professional manner.

I do not think it is fair for anyone to judge a community on the basis of one thread or a couple of posters. Sure there have been less-than-polite and unconstructive comments, but your decision to state only three people are "truly professionals" is lowering yourself to the standards of the very people who have upset you.

MadIce is holding the mirror up gain

Do not check first if the problem is real or not (otherwise we have no fun at all).
Post that problem (use a catchy subject).
Make sure that you implicitely state there is an intentional misconduct.
Threaten that you will leave if this will not be changed.
If proven untrue then try to twist the words, use personal attacks and use emotional blackmail wherever you can.
If there is no way out then act like a victim, change your nick and leave with false sentiment.

Some of these rules may or may not apply to this thread.

That rather begs the question, if Jafo's "opinion" doesn't count to you, why did you email him? And further, why let him waste his time taking apart the skin and checking it out when his input was of no value to you. That's rather churlish. Or did his judgement only not matter when he did not confirm your belief (for that is all that it appears to be).

Did you email the "professionals" also? (Those pros started out as "amateur" skinners before going pro. And perhaps you've noticed that there are amateur skinners whose work is up there with the pros for quality and design.)

Frankly, that button of yours is not particularly unique. I suppose if someone took the time to go through the thousands of skins available, someone would find a previously made graphic that looks similar to one of yours. If so, does that mean you ripped the previous work? How would you feel if someone told you you ripped it? And then persisted in the allegation despite others' examination of the work and your protestations of innocence?

As for the "anonymity" of the accused skin and skinner, looking through the new skins DM's was the only blue one that colorwise might be your target and lead to your thread now rather than before. Buttonwise, no. It's not "obvious" as you previously stated that there's any ripping. Again, someone likely could make the same allegation against your work based on some such "similarity" if they chose to do so.

Evidently that yours is the only view that matters to you. And when the "pros" (*if* they take the time as Jafo did to look at it) don't confirm your belief? Will you accept that or dismiss them too?

If it was clear there was a rip, you'd find people making more supportive comments. But it's not. Now anyone who doesn't share your belief is unworthy of providing input? The possibility that you're simply wrong in your assessment and overreacted is something evidently you're not willing to accept. But your last post was the topper. Now you are just plain wrong.

sig101 : Well said. Another melodrama has taken place. (About a blue standard aqua-gel button one can find tutorials for all over the net, what a shame...)

At this point I am wondering if perhaps Zodiac~ and Dark Mist know each other in the "real world". I don't know the ages of these two individuals, but the way Zodiac~ is keeping on is almost as though he has some grudge with Dark Mist outside of WC and because of this believes so intensely that DM would rip from him.

Then again I could be wrong. Pay me no mind.

Another reason i posted here was because i'm annoyed that i spend alot of hours on what i do and i do not like some ego coming along saying im a cheat, if thats the case then all work would have to be unique and colours only used once, which you will agree is impossible and very tedious.

I have a button on my pc dated 22/11/2002. If you change the colour of person X's button...OMG!! I'VE BEEN RIPPED!!!

I'm just sorry I wasted my time last night comparing the images pixel by pixel, the fact they were dissimilar is obviously only an 'opinion'...

Yes. I see that you have noticed that too.
1) Get rid of personal attackers like you. There are a lot of those lately.
2) Make skinning more fun. This is very hard because of #1.
3) Chocolade Slagroom Vla. Sorry about that.

Before making a statement like this one, ask yourself "Who asked me to make my first skin?"

I'm sure your answer will be the same as every other skinner's answer.

No one.

If you have made sacrifices in your life to make these skins, you made those sacrifices of your own free will. You chose to make those sacrifices because you enjoy creating skins. If you did not enjoy the work involved, you would never have finished your first skin, let alone began the second. To attempt to make anyone here feel guilty over a natural response to your attitude is downright despicable.

You do very good work. But no one held a gun to your head to make you do that work. If anything, given the positive comments people have made on your work, you owe them something. Not the other way around.

You owe them respect.

Take my button, cut the top half, stretch, copy, flip vertical, overlay, or saturation, or softlight and change the opacity

If they've done that much work on it, it's not a rip. In that case, your image would simply be the base image that has been extremely modified, this one would come under 'fair use'.
