Don't install or upgrade to CCleaner 5.45

I was perusing ghacks when I found this article.

Since so many of us use the app, I thought you should read Martin Brinkmann's advice.

When I had CCleaner open before I upgraded I clicked on check for updates on the bottom right. That took me to, blankety blank...CNET, not piriform's website. SOB! Version 5.45 seems to me to be somebody's addition to 5.44. Data mining perhaps, by Avast A/V perhaps. The anti spy spy. Lol

I did dl wise cleaner and installed it after uninstalling CCleaner. It did a deeper clean than CCleaner, taking out 1.6 gigs of totally useless junk. It cleaned out WinSxS where CCleaner didn't. That accounted for most of it. Only thing is when I used CCleaner it cleaned out all of my browser history so I had to log in at WC. Didn't happen this time, I was still logged in. Haven't checked other sites I go to yet.

Downgrade it to whatever version (afterdawn.com or filehippo should have older versions) then install ccenhancer or do what neophil said or just stay of the web

Using Glary Utilities

Thanks for that tip!!! I just installed it and kicked the tires. Seems to do as expected but have not noticed any real performance gains.

Swapped out CC for GU here as well.  I had used GU a number of years ago, not sure why I abandoned it then.  Seems to do everything CC (free) could do.

May give WiseCleaner a spin, too.

I did notice one thing. Boot up time went from 42 seconds to 21 seconds. Cut it in half after running Wise Cleaner.

Check which version you have. That happened to me with version 5.45. The actual update version is 5.44 at the piriform website. The version I had came from CNET.

Me too. I've never had a problem with CC Cleaner

I've not had any issues with the location thing, but then I have all notices and updates turned off to prevent any kind of tracking, etc.  I have 5.44, but am looking into Wise Cleaner as a replacement to CCleaner as I no longer trust the program.

Give Wise Cleaner a shot. The freebie is called Wise Cleaner 365. It does a lot more than CCleaner. I have it and it reduced my boot up time to nearly half.

Well I've given Wise Care 360 a go and gave CCleaner the flick.  Yup, I'm so impressed with Wise Care 360 that I purchased the pro version to cover 3 machines for just 30 Aussie bucks.  Not bad, eh?  And yes, it does more than CCleaner... even the free version.

Have installed wise 365 free version to try. Seems to do more than CCleaner which I have been using for years.

Will keep trying for a while and will probably update to the pro version as it appears there is a lot more it can do.

Yeah, the pro version is worth the money... 30 bucks for 3 machines, can't go past that... but get in quick to get it at that price.

Just tried Wise 365 free. Wow, I'm impressed - it knocks CCleaner Pro into touch!

Hi Starkers

The deal was for 3 machines for 1 year, though I think it still runs after that, just no updates, etc.
