How often do you optimize?

I optimize about every 2 weeks and use Executive Software Diskeeper.

I must say it's the best optimizer I've ever used.

What I usually do is intense defrag with DK then use MS Bootvis to optimize boot time as what that does is it see's just how the computer calles the diffrent files at start up and fragments them in order of how the puter askes for boot files at the begining of the disc to speed up boot time

1. Use BootVis to trace all files accessed during start-up.
2. Defrag with PerfectDisk (from norton suite) using BootVis data to layout start-up files in order at the beginning of the drive.
It works wonders, cut my start-up time in WinXP from 55 sec. to 35 sec.

DM, I used to optimize every week but thought that was too much. Like wear and tear.
Games will defrag your HD too. So it really depends on how often I optimize. Sometimes a week, sometimes a month.
You're better off keepin your computer on too. Cause shutting down and turning on causes wear and tear.

I was always told it freed up space at the cost of speed... is this false?
