Axialis Icon WorkShop is French!

Wednesday, April 2, 2003 by hashonboat | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I downloaded icon workshop & liked it because I could easily batch convert mac icons to png's or ico's, so when my trial period was up I deceided to buy it ( like I should)BUT I found out they charge only euro's because they are French, so I decided NO WAY I'm gonna suport the French! Can anyone recommend another program with the same or better capabilities ??

Does the French gov collect taxes from the maker of the software, and if so wouldn't purchasing this software in effect be supporting the French gov?

well considering the fact that our government is still dealing with the French government
and also making public statements that we are still allies. Isn't it a bit of a stretch to
react in this manner? As far as the French government collecting taxes goes, I don't know
because I am not French and do not live in France which I've also never visited. So I am
not sure how their system works. But I do not assume it is an exact reflection of our system
of IRS and taxation.I've never collated the differences between our government and the French
government, but as stated before, it is a personal choice and would not presume to attempt
changing it or to disallow it.

As the original question was asked the answer is, there is not any one program that comes
close to Iconworkshops functionality. So one either stays with the best or digs through the
rest.

anyway, as someone or actually a few have stated in this thread, this thread is sad and also
after reflection, rather funny at the same time. I'll bow out of it now and wish you luck
in your search and what ever choice you end up making.

the first time i read the title "IconWorkshop is French" i thought it´s about some April fools joke by Axialis.

bakerstreet: i actually did point him to an alternative, but still could not resist to express my amusement on his chauvinism. don´t forget the Russian government considered vetoing that UN resolution also and the money you payed for your Talisman shell is supporting those evil communists. and there wasn´t a veto needed as Chile and Mexico could not be bought anyway.

Listen, the guy has the right to boycott whatever he wants for whatever reason he wants. Whether he is right or wrong is irrelevant. Just like the French who have decided to boycott McDonalds. It's their right.
In both cases, it won't make the slightest difference whatsoever in the French or US economy, but it's irrelevant. It's meant as a symbolic gesture, not an economic one.

Having said that, IconShop is the best icon program there is. There are none that come even close. But if you are ready to sacrifice that to make a symbolic gesture to support your own personal values, then good for you.

People have a right to their own views, its no personal attack as such merely a civilised conflict in which none of us can win or lose.

My point basically is that I have immense respect for people who not only have an opinion, but actually live by their values. Even if I don't share those values or agree with those opinions.
I have no respect for people for example who complaint about Microsoft, but who keep buying the lastest version of Office or Windows whenever it comes out.

If you have an opinion, don't just talk about it, live up to it.

I really wonder what comes next... Will people demand that any german or french people have to be kicked out of here and their skins deleted ? Will You boycott Wincustomize because people of other nations that disagree with the war are here ? I know, this is worst scenario, but some people have to think about it IMHO...

moshi: Nice try, but that is an old screenshot. I haven't purchased a copy of Talisman since my oddly excessive consumption of French products started weighing on my mind. In the past, Arkadiy was kind enough to give me a copy to use. Right now I am using Explorer. Where to go next I haven't decided.

Whether I decide to purchase Talisman in the future is my own business, just as the decision whether to by Axalis is hashonboat's decision. I'll be mindful of your post, though, thanks.

c242: The French and Germans are boycotting US goods and restaurants. For heaven's sake the Pakistanis are debating whether to boycott US goods at a governmental level. Stop acting like it is an act of terrorism. There was a recent poll in france that stated 33% of the French population wants Iraq to win this war. There is no shortage of animosity on either side.

acting like it´s an act of terrorism? the war or the boycotting of the best icon software for Windows around? the boycotting just amuses me, terrorism does not.
time to buy a Cuban cigar now.

I see you Americans are beginning to find out just how insidious the French are. In the UK we have had all this for years. Despite being in the EEC the French continue to ban imports of some of our goods contrary to EEC rulings. They still owe billions in fines for that, which they have no intention of paying. And they wonder why we don't want to join the Euro...

If you ask the average man in the street here how he feels about the French most of the answers would contain expletives.

c242: Since *huge* percentages of both countries are opposed to the war, I didn't think there was a need for sub-categories, but if you feel it is necessary I'll try and say something like "German's who both oppose the war and boycott US goods and services" or something like that...

If I had a dime the word 'American' or 'Yank' has been tossed at me around here...

Well, I think that generally when one says "the Americans", "the French" or "the British", they don't mean the citizens, but their government.
