Outlook vs. Outlook Express

I have been using Outlook Express for years now. I recently installed Office XP on my computer, which comes with Outlook. Can those of you that have tried both give me some feedback on your experience? I am considering installing Outlook but am a little cautious to do so since OE has performed flawlessly for me. Thanks for the help.

All the problems that are commonly experienced using Outlook are the result of not knowing how to use it and the many features.
Outlook is more than email but is a part of Office and being so is tied together with all the other Office products. Access, Excel, Word, Internet explorer, etc.
To really get the most from Outlook you need to know how to use the Office suite. If you just want email then OE is best but if you are serious then it is worth the time leaning the Microsoft Office.
Set a database of email addresses with Access and spam your friends regularly using the mail merge
You can also add plug-ins for adobe, win-zip, win-fax and a couple other.

Here's another OE issue..
If you happen to belong to any yahoo groups or anything which you get ALOT of email, you will want to setup rules which send mail to other than your inbox. I have seen OE crash 2 times because the inbox reached in excess of 1.5GB in size. Trying to recover that could take months!!

I have both and use Outlook for mail - rules is a key advantage. Oddly, newsgroups only show through OE.

hmmmm... I have always used Outlook Express.
I guess I will take a look at Outlook XP when I get the new computer a few months from now (hopefully)

OK, a few notes of my own.
First, I've always used the preview pane and never got infected. Make sure your Antivirus is up to date and you'll have no preblem.
Second, about Outlook or OUtllok Express. Depends. Do you need a calendar, agenda with reminders, notes and tasks tracking? If yes, thye Outlook is far superior. But if you really just want to send emails, then it would be absurd to use Outlook.
But, if you decide to use Outlook XP, here are a few notes.
1- Outlook XP will not let you receive any executable or script files. Outlook will block and not allow you to receive any files that has the extension EXE, BAT, PIF, COM, SCR, and a lot of others. The stupid thing is that there is NO option in Outlook to turn that feature off. There is of course a way (there always is) but it involves playing in the registry.
2- Outlook XP has a bug with attachments: sometimes they just don't show. I'm not talking about the executable that I mentionned in the above point, but about attachments in general. JPG or whatever. Most of the time it's fine, but once in a while (I dunno, once in a 100 maybe?), the attachement are there, but there is nothing telling you that there is an attachment to the email. The only way to know is to notice the file size of the email. Then go to the file menu and select save attachments, and there they are. Anyway, it's a bug. I've seen it happen on a few different computers so it's not just me.
3- In you Write Email options, make sure you do NOT use Word as your email editor. It really slows opening a new email (sice Word has to open every time you want to write an email), and there is absolutely no benefit anyway.
That's it I guess. Oh and despite my notes above, I do love Outlook. That's what I use and couldn't live without it.

I just installed and configured Outlook XP for myself and my wife. So far, so good! I also found a little registry tweak that allows me to minimize Outlook to the system tray - quite a nice thing. It imported the email account settings, mail I have saved locally, and the address book. All of this was flawless. I love it when things go right the first time!

Since you found the registry tweak to send it to the systray, I'm sure you got the one to unblock EXE's?

Angel_Wings is still coughing up a lung. 
Angel_Wings used Outlook 2000 but it crashed a lot.

Thoughts on OE versus Outlook XP?
Well, I use Outlook XP on my notebook (For the calendar and the like) - but the biggest differences I've noticed so far are this:
MESSAGE RULES: In Outlook Express, they always worked flawlessly, 100% of the time - no matter how simple or convoluted my message rules where.
In Outlook XP - they only automatically run whenever they feel like it, it seems. I can't find any rhyme or reason as to why sometimes they run when I have incoming mail, and why sometimes they don't.
SPAM: I've yet to be able to get Outlook XP to actually /accept/ an email address as a junk mail address. I can select it, and choose "Add sender as Junk MAil" or wahtever - but it never actually adds them to the list.
Just my experiences with Outlook XP - your milage may vary. As is usual with Microsoft products - I'm sure if I were to install it on my Desktop instead of my notebook - it would behave /totally/ differently.
