Outlook vs. Outlook Express

I have been using Outlook Express for years now. I recently installed Office XP on my computer, which comes with Outlook. Can those of you that have tried both give me some feedback on your experience? I am considering installing Outlook but am a little cautious to do so since OE has performed flawlessly for me. Thanks for the help.

,and that would be under View/Layout,then make sure to un-check the pre-view pane box.Very good advice.

For OE, how do or what do you need to set so that it doesn't open your last e-mail automaticly?
Under View/Layout nothing is checked.
When I go into OE it opens the last email and when you delete it it will open the next one. I would like to stop this from happening.

Wom..not sure if this works with OE (I use Outlook). Under Tools,Options,Preferences,E-mail Options click 'return to inbox'

Angela, thats the way it is set up, but it still opens the last e-mail.

Angela is right...there has to be something in there that stops the preview pane. When you open OE Inbox does it open message auto??

ahhhh....you need somehow (that's a help) to get rid of the Preview Pane and then only the message header will come up, even on startup. Wish I could be more help on this...

Then ALSO uncheck "Automatically Display folders with unread messages"

I use Outlook 2000 and OE 6.0
I almost exclusively use Outlook, I find it far superior to OE in every way.
I have not used Outlook XP however and I have heard complaints about it.

I heard the same thing, Jam. I have 2000 also and am perfectly happy with it. As far as Outlook, it just lets you use the whole Office Suite thru it. Type a letter, print an envelope (with a stamp plug-in) and throw in the snail mail. Good to go

Can't do any of that with Outlook Express.... I only use OE for throwaway alias email addy's...

I use Outlook XP. There is no better way of managing mail. OE is primitive by comparison. I changed from Office 2000 to XP in January and Outlook is far better. All the features are tidied up and security increased - took me ages to figure out how to display other people's stationary!(Easy when you know how). Forget virus problems, Outlook XP will not allow attachments which may contain viruses.

BTW, you will still have OE...I have both myself. I do usually use OE more than Outlook now after tweaking it properly. The big thing to remember is you NEVER want to use the 'preview' pane in OE...it will instantly open an infected email which is WAY UNCOOL not that your viruscanner won't catch it but it's better safe than sorry since most viruses have to HAPPEN to SOMEONE first before there is an innoculation for it.
