I just noticed that there is a thread about an email hoax by Dark Mist here: https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?BID=WC&id=125801
I posted last night asking if he knew it was a hoax, and I didn't go back till just a little while ago (I saw new posts). Now, my reply is gone. Someone else is there mentioning it's a hoax (Fuzzy Logic).
I'm more than just a bit curious why my post was deleted. The exact text was approximatly (sorry, maybe not exact, it was delted, I couldn't quote):
"Are we ignoring the fact the norton calls this a hoax? If it was a joke, sorry, I'm kinda slow at times...
"

I would assume it was taken off the board because it was a hoax.

I like the way these things are made so obvious...
We could really go for a real FAQ about what protocols (soory, I'm a programmer, I like the word protocols) are used on this message board....

Sorry, I don't know who deleted it, but I'm sure that's why it was. I'm the one who deleted the last one though.

What about if there was a way to close the thread so that people (Dark Mist and Me) know it's closed, we can know why, and we won't repost it thinking it's our fault. Just an idea, but I think it'd be much better for everyone to close threads rather than deleting... unless server HDD space is a concern, but I don't know how much space a message board thread would really take up...

These posts shouldn't happen in the first place. It takes 10 seconds to check out any virus threat. We don't need any new messageboard 'protocol', just a little common sense.

No, we won't have closed threads here.
If threads are bad enough that they need to be closed, then they are bad enough to be deleted anyway.
There need not be any complicated protocols. It's quite simple: a email hoax was posted, we deleted it. For those who don't know, hoaxes can be just as harmfull as viruses themselves if they are widespread enough. Especially those that prompt you to delete files from you computer. Unless you have subscribed to a virus alert newsletters from MacAffee of Norton, about 99% of the email warnings you will receive are hoaxes. Always make sure you double check before you forward it to anyone. Just keep this address in your bookmarks for easy access, and then it takes 10 seconds to check if a threat is real: http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp

You don't think it's better to let people know it's a hoax rather than let them get it, fear it's real and spread the delusion? Dark Mist did a service, and was penalized for it... What about the people that don't know where to go for virus hoax info? Do we just give 'em a big ol' FU and say 'you should have known better'??
but that's not the point... A post was deleted, no one knew about it (minus the admins), so it was posted again.... The cycle could have been broken faster, early, and more clearly if at least the originator was notified that his thread was deleted...
Closing is the admin's choice, you call if you don't close and delete instead, but the mechanism for deleting does not seem to be very good to me at all... I only see it promoting confusion for deltion w/o explanations...

Yes, we don't need protocols, we all have common sense, in fact, that shows up quite well on this msgboard.

Just so people know, I'm rather insulted by an event yesterday, and guess what, I was insulted by people of the higher rank. It's not the guests or new members we have who does seem to own logic, it was the people who think they've been around enough so favoritism should be granted to them.

Elf: we discussed the closed thread issue between admins and we decided against it. If it's offesive, the it needs to be deleted, otherwise if people read something but can't reply to it they just open new threads about it.

Granted, in this case it was not offensive, it was just misleading.
We did not punish Dark Mist, we just removed a false post he made. He wasn't punished in any way. But I agree when a thread like this is deleted, an email should be sent to the person who posted it. We usually do when it's needed. Sorry for this time.
