When you click on someone's name it shows apprentice, master apprentice, debutante, God, etc..

What is the order that those go in and how are the obtained?

I thought ranking was about ego problems before I became an admin, so I'm not going to be dishonest and say I changed my mind. I didn't. The ranking system is convenient because it allows to have people earn more priviledges as they contribute more to the community.
Now, whether a person chooses to wear his title proudly in from of his name is his own choice, but I know I don't. I never did, I never will. I could not look at myself in the mirror if I did.

And by the way, I feel the same about doctors, lawyers and judges. When I call my doctor's office, I ask the receptionist to get an appointment with "Mister Smith". Now when she answers me "You mean DOCTOR Smith?", I reply "No, I mean MISTER Smith, who is indeed a doctor."

My doctor legally changed his last name to Doctor, so I'd have to call him Mister Doctor.

paxx, Now that's kinda the opposite of me. I can't call the doctor just Mister because of all the crap he had to put up with to get that title. I have to call him Dr. Smith because of sheer respect. I know I couldn't do that and earn the title myself, so I honor those who did.

lawyers... that's different

I have met quite a few people that are doctors by schooling that don't want to be called such. Two of my favorte/best professors I ever had in college were that way. I can understand humility and all, but I still don't think it's an ego to want what you earned.

Paxx....Surgeons revert to 'Mister'...theoretically as a step above a GP Doctor...so calling your Doctor 'Mister' would be a compliment...

Jafo: ! So Doctors get more humble as they study more? Kinda makes sense actually.

As for titles, It's only there as a sign of SOS... please do not call me anything other than Mary and Elfkura... just mary or elfkura. I'm quite uncomfortable with titles. I dislike titles, because I come from a society where pressure comes from having titles... I'm Taiwanese. The titles of respect are numerous... I dislike them, and I don't use them..

and my father is often angry at me for not respecting that... *shrug*

Elfkura, I wasn't referring to you. You explained your reasoning. I've seen you around for years. Enjoy your title.

Paxx knows where I'm coming from. He explained it perfectly. Earning your title and flaunting your title are 2 different things. But to each his own.

depends, I have a real hard time handing out respect only based on ones title in any given relationship.

respect is earned, though there is a vertain level of benifit of the doubt applied at the begining. If they prove less than up to gaining full respect, oh well, if so
then it is gladly given...

I've met to many Quacks with PHD's in Psychology, and in the last couple of years, those who are supposed to be Neruosurgeons and Ortho's...

So... my reservations kind of get worn on my shoulder until the first 5 or 10 minutes of the first meeting, and from then on they are slowly put into the back pocket as respect builds...

anyway... wackybobo pov I guess, but...

I hadn't really noticed anyone flaunting there title, but I'msure it does happen, I'm just not around enough...

At that point, Robohead and Paxx are right, they are bad.

I don't see it enough to really notice the problem though

off subject, but still good advice:

NEVER make notices on little pieces of paper then fold them up... I had about three pages of php, two of which are unreadable because the pencil marks smeared....

I'm outta here to try to figure out what I was thinking (I hope it wasn't too good an idea, cuz I'm not getting figureing all of these notes out)

night everyone
