StarDock Central Is Available

Friday, February 7, 2003 by da_zman20 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Just wanted to let everyone know... go to your Component Manager... or Drenging.net game manager and then the news link... that will give you the site to download from... been checking it out... but i've already discovered a few bugs... lol... it won't recogniz my Cursor Xp Registration Number, and everytime install BandVWM after about 30 seconds it makes a noise as though there is a new update... so I look bandVWM is listed as not installed and it the update is the version I just installed... but it's way better than the old Component Manager

snarph - if you have one of those emails from Stardock with your subscription and serial numbers, use it to go through the registration process for each program that asks for it.

I think your logon for Wincustomize is your password

Cazzie,

Make sure you bypass any download managers. I had the same problem with Getright.

I entered the address in IE and bypassed Getright monitoring and SUCCESS!!

Hope this works for you too!

kja.

Thought they fixed some bugs.. ... Object bar still wont install... now Control center says it's not installed... and when I try it does the same thing bar does... I have faith in the guys at Stardock though... they can do things that no other software company can oh and I still can't install Cursor Xp, it has no place for my serial...

Thanks kja for the advice. I've got the URL to work now. I might hold off doing the download till the fixes are included. 5Mb takes ages on a dial up connection!!!

What password are they looking for in the SDC? I tried every password I've got & still no good. It says if you are creating a new acct. then an email will be sent to confirm... how does it know? There's only a 'submit' button so there's no way for it to distinguish. If I don't enter a password, will one be sent to me?

Thanks!

The password is your logon to Wincustomize.

To register, double click on the "registration info" text in the status bar on the bottom left of the window. That brings up a registration window with tabs to select the different companies and each tabbed window has a drop-down box to select the different programs.

Registering SDCentral:

To being using Stardock Central you must first register a Stardock.net account below.

If you already have a Stardock.net account (ie: wincustomize.com, galciv.com) just enter that information to login.

If you are creating a new account you must enter a valid email address. A verification email will be sent to that address and you must click on a link withing that email to validate your account before you can begin using the online services of Stardock Central.

I downloaded and installed SD Central, but for some reason, it recognizes almost NONE of my programs. For instance, I'm using WB 3.90, it says its not installed. I'm using DesktopX 1.90, says it's not installed...as with pretty much every other program on the list. Any idea's why this is happening?

I am using SD Central now...I'm trying to use it to interface with SD and Wincustomize as much as possible. I have a couple of suggestions that I think would vastly improve the usability, especially to surf Wincustomize.

1. Alow us to set a homepage when the "Web Browser" section is loaded. I get the idea behind setting stardock.com, but I realy, really want to change that to wincustomize.com. Maybe make it a radio button choice? "Set your homepage: []Stardock.com []Wincustomize.com"

2. Tabbed browsing. Tabbed browsing, tabbed browsing, tabbed browsing. There are a LOT of tabbed interfaces to MSIE, in fact my regular browser is Netcaptor (a tabbed front end). I absoutely hate that if I open a link in a new window, it behaves like a pop-up...it's extremely intrusine and very counter-intuitive. If you decide to do tabs, make sure you offer the ability to open tabs in the background.

Opinions?

I can see the possibily of adding a HomePage option but I really do not see us adding Tabbed Browsing. The goal behind Stardock Central is to make a common interface to Stardock Products, not to create a full fledged browser.

T-Man: the reason I suggest it is to make cruising wincustomize from inside SD C easier...but it's certainly not a make-or-break! It would add a usability dimension to the app, though, that made it feel more...more...well, more.

Either way, it's a phenomenal app and a great idea...I was just throwing some stuff against the wall.
