Fake Mac desktops

With the amount of interest generated by ObjectDock, I am curious to see what kind of desktops those that use it look like.

tinkergaloot: lol... ummm... shop around a bit and price those parts yourself, retail even. If I couldn't build an equivalent PC myself for less than 3 grand I would eat it without condiments. You can get a Sony 17" widescreen multimedia display for $999, from Best Buy... and if I couldn't weasel my hardware cheaper than retail I'd quit.

Carlitus, I'm not putting down Mac, I just said if I wanted one I'd buy one. I have no interest in making my Windows machine look like a Mac, that's just how I feel, no insults intended to Mac lovers.

Macs are actually somewhat more powerful than PC's. Every workbench will tell you.
Problem is that they are too expensive and there are a lot of compatibility issues. As far as to why businesses use PC's, it's a catch 22: because of compatibility issues and because almost all businesses use PC's, the businesses have to use PC's.
As far as stability goes, they are equivalent. OS 9 and below was ridiculous as well as Windows 9x. OSX and 2000/XP are both excellent OSes.

adam: That is utter crap. OSX is based on Unix, an operating system that pretty much makes Windows look like a commodore 64. Saying it is somehow a rip of XP is silly, what basis do you have for that? How about posting the dates of development for XP and OSX? How about giving me a list of features the two have remotely in common? If it is a rip, then you oughtta be able to say what was ripped. I'm not a fan of Mac, but I like for my bias to be based on seomthing close to the truth...

JamMeister33, nothing about to Mac fanatics. I simply agree your afirmation: if anyone wish a Mac desktop, the best solution is to buy a real Mac
Yes, i'm a Mac user, and i prefer the Aqua interface, but not exactly their dock (i minimized the zoom, to a non-disturbing size).

Hotkeys are something that are really overlooked in Windows use, I think. People don't wanna memorize them, but they are much, much more efficient than a mouse meovement/click combination. I keep seeing that commercial (earthlink?) on tv where it looks like the guy is playing a video game, but he is really trying to close pop-up windows. I wanna yell "Ctrl W, you twit!".
Mac users seem more comfortable with hotkeys. If you every watch someone who has a *really* high comfort level with the hotkeys in Photoshop (not me, by any means), you'll be amazed. It looks like they are typing images into existance.

i have about 1200 clients, anyone with their folder and files. Any week i enter about 20 clients.
Take your clock and calculate the time: making 20 new folders with rigth click/select new/selct folder, and the other option Apple+N.
Wich option will be more faster.
ABout Photoshop: Bakerstreet, i like the interactivity of Photoshop selecting tools (switching between tool-colorpicker and the 'hand' with spacebar) as i like the interactivity of Freehand for texts, or the options of Indesign as Option+1 applies a style text. Of course, these applications ara available for Windows too

How about the Mac ad where the guy is woke up by his kid because she couldn't print? Then he takes the computer apart and messes with the cards. I sure would like to know which card fixed it. (guess he never heard of drivers

I have seen people navigate Windows much faster with the keyboard than I can with a mouse. The mouse is overused by people with a solid knowledge of computers.
slicing with the hotkeys is really, really fast, too. It is a skill skinners/web designers could realy make use of, cutting up all those parts.
in windows:
1. make your selection
2. Ctrl Shift 'c' (copy merged)
3. Ctrl 'n' (new image)
4. Ctrl 'v' (paste)
5. Alt 'l' 'f' (flatten the image'
6. Ctrl Shift 's' (save as)
7. Ctrl 'w' (close the new image)
I can hack a part out, save it, and be back to the original in about 5-10 seconds.

jebland: i am betting he is one of those guys that had a 90mgz computer with no USB ports and bought a USB printer, and then had to buy a USB card. So often Windows gets blamed for people trying to glue new stuff on old junk.

Baker...You are probably right. I didn't think about USB. The ad just didn't make sense to me. But...If the port wasn't already there or a USB card installed, how did he connect the printer to the computer?

Really, i prefer MacOS 9 for usability and consistence between applications, but it crashes a lot, and the apps monopolizes all the CPU for simple tasks such send a file to print.
Y make a lot of CMYK separations, and i have no time to wait until these separations are sended to the spooler.
Actually i allways use OSX at work. On my work i allways used a Mac (i not selected the kind of computer) before the first release of WIndows95. I'm very habituated to Macs, and i like them a lot.
I'm a lover of the hotkeys use, too. Unfortunatelly, OSX isn't the best using hotkeys. Making icons and skins for WindowsXP, i discovered the existence of 'pre-tipping' the filename on Save dialogs (for example, if there's a file called myfile.bmp and you type 'my' it appears the remaining letters 'file' you only need the format to save, for example .png).
Any platform have the good and bad things. Now i'm habituated to Macs and Windows, and i'm habituating to Linux. At my first times using Windows95, i not appreciated a lot this system (very 'arcaic' compared to Macs in these past times)

jebland: People normally don't put them in all the way. They fart around with drivers for a half hour, took out the card to get the model number or something off it, and put it all the way in the second time. Then the next set of drivers mysteriously works! It's all microsoft's fault, though.
