Bariatric Surgery Patients? UPDATED
Do you have anything to share?

Hi guys. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has had bariatric surgery and if so, do you have anything you'd like to share?
Helpful tips, things to watch out for, etc.
My wife and I are gearing up for the gastric sleeve surgery. In order to get the insurance company to pay, we both had to lose 10% of our weight, as a show of commitment.
Lisa made her 10% goal today! Yay Lisa!! I weighed in today with the hospital dietitian, I have lost 9 lbs. since last weigh in!
I still lack 11 lbs. But I have greatly reduced the amount of insulin I use and am at a point of having a blood sugar average of 80 - 110 mg/d. I was averaging around 250 - 300 and had an A1C of 11 - 13. I expect an A1C of 8 or less when I see my Dr. mid August.
I have been walking the track at the hospital where Lisa works. Getting from 4 - 6 miles each time I walk. Protien shakes and an 1800 calorie per day diet is going well.
I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, recipes, stories, etc. that you may want to share! Wish us luck!

It has indeed been a rough day. They fill you up with some kind of gas so that they can maneuver. That gas is painful. I thought I was having a heart attack!!
Been walking around to work some of it out.
Jim...that gas isn't the kind (and in the place) where one can walk it off. It's in your abdominal cavity, not your intestine...it was put in to create 'working room'. It will enter your blood stream and exit through your lungs.
Walking is a very good thing, however...for regularity and to prevent clots in your veins.
That seems a bit much...last I heard you'd gone up 10. Maybe recheck that, and if true, your diabetes meds might have to be adjusted...
Of course, it'll keep those sheep on their toes as well. ![]()

I know why they did it, and they, the nurses, told me I could walk it off. I know they were wrong, but they did say it.
As for my weight, I had gone up 10 after qualifying for insurance coverage, lost 12 more by surgery date, and now down a total of 42 pounds since beginning all this. Liquid dieting will get the weight off in a hurry.
Haven't needed diabetes meds ( insulin ) in a few weeks now, my sugar is fine.

Thanks Doc! Lisa is down by 82 pounds, 45 for me.
Pain is all but gone.
Walked a mile at the track on Monday.

Not much to say really except, WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW and Beautiful Lisa.
Sorry had to take a break after writhing that for laughter. Not at Lisa but thinking about what the hell Jim might look like. Having a hard time coming up with anything that may make him look half as good as Lisa.
Back to the serious part again, Bless you both for having the courage to do that. Like Doc said you lives will last longer and you will be able to do more together. Hell I have two spare rooms maybe you will even head to NJ some time.

Pics of a skinnier me will have to wait a bit longer.

Jim, you take care of that beautiful lady because you sure as hell aren't moving in with me if you get her mad at you.

Just so fabulous Jim! Give Lisa my love and thanks for the help with my sis. I would guess she is about the size Lisa was before all the loss.
