Bariatric Surgery Patients? UPDATED
Do you have anything to share?

Hi guys. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has had bariatric surgery and if so, do you have anything you'd like to share?
Helpful tips, things to watch out for, etc.
My wife and I are gearing up for the gastric sleeve surgery. In order to get the insurance company to pay, we both had to lose 10% of our weight, as a show of commitment.
Lisa made her 10% goal today! Yay Lisa!! I weighed in today with the hospital dietitian, I have lost 9 lbs. since last weigh in!
I still lack 11 lbs. But I have greatly reduced the amount of insulin I use and am at a point of having a blood sugar average of 80 - 110 mg/d. I was averaging around 250 - 300 and had an A1C of 11 - 13. I expect an A1C of 8 or less when I see my Dr. mid August.
I have been walking the track at the hospital where Lisa works. Getting from 4 - 6 miles each time I walk. Protien shakes and an 1800 calorie per day diet is going well.
I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, recipes, stories, etc. that you may want to share! Wish us luck!

It has indeed been a rough day. They fill you up with some kind of gas so that they can maneuver. That gas is painful. I thought I was having a heart attack!!
Been walking around to work some of it out.

Lay down on your back and elevate your feet higher than your heart. This worked for me once, relieves the pressure. :/

Glad to hear it Jim. Keep the windows open though......too much gas build up can be hazardous.

It's not gas like that, but rather the gases tend to collect in the chest and shoulder area. For some reason this works. :/

Home now. Nausea, pain, tired, cold. Glad to be home.
Gonna miss the demerol. Lortab elixir not as good. Phenergan will help.

Glad you are home.
The pain and the nausea will go as will the weight.
Just look at Lisa and say to yourself she was like this when she came home and look at her now.
Cheers from all down under.

Day 3 at home, doing well, feeling ok. Some pain, not bad.
Menu sucks...lol. Skipped church today, can't drive.
Been walking some. Down 42 pounds total.

Pain will get better. It will be worth it in the end.

Cheers
