Rating

Saturday, March 23, 2002 by adni18 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Someone who is having a lot of complex, keep giving me rates 1 to my works with XP relating subject. Today I got rate 1 for my new wallpaper "XP-Roll".

Please don't tell me about the XP stuff, downloads etc, because this is not the case and it is not as it was before any more, if you know what I mean.

In the other hand, everybody are looking and nobody is acting. Is this a sense of community?

Don't you think that the anonymity in the rating system, is helping the cowards and the adulators to express their complex, in the most cases?

"ratings should be signed/traceable"

What next, the punishment? Are we sitting as judge and jury here, I believe this is taking things abit too far.
As far as the rating tied to a comment, great idea, however, hasn't it been brought to mind time and time again that there seems to be a LACK of comments in the first place.
If I can make a simple observation, seems like we have brought this thread full cicle...(?)

Adni18, I personally don't like the wallpaper. Don't get me wrong, I know that you work hard and are one of the highest producing skinners here, but getting a bad rating occasionally is all part of the package. I wouldn't have rated the wallpaper a 1, I think that was unfair, but I wouldn't have gone much higher than 4 or 5. It's just the way the ratings system works, some people will rate high, some people will rate low, and just because a small number of people rate way too high or way too low, you shouldn't let it get to you, it will all balance out in the end.

To those that think the rating system is unfair, exercize your right to vote, the more people that vote, the more balanced the ratings will become, and give a truer opinion of the merits of a piece. Just because one person hates it, it won't totally sink the rating.

Adni, I'm sorry that someone rated your skin so poorly, but I'm sure this thread will encourage more people to vote, and give you something a little closer to useful feedback on your work.

AJCrowley,
Thank you for your reply to the thread.
I never said that this particular wallpaper was masterpiece or that deserved a rate 10, but this rate 1 was malicius. That was all.
I know well that there are different tastes and no one can't never expect that everybody will agree about the result of any artistic work. It is natural!

one question..

can u have it so that anyone can see the ratings? or at least let teh artist see their own ratings if theyre not a developer

Of course, when it comes to Wallpapers, here on Wincustomize....getting a '1' for a rating isn't as 'bad' as may be imagined. Remember...it HAS made it past 'Moderation', where some pretty horrid things are left on the cutting room floor.
OK, some are upload errors....screenshots that fail, some are breach of copyright issues....some are 'stolen' works....but it's the rest....the ones that make you cry, and I'm not referring to their quotient of 'pathos'.

By and large, with the Wall dept., they are all pretty good, perhaps of diverse styles and taste and therefore not to everyones' equal liking, but they all have passed muster on some level or other....

One more thought on the non-anonymous concept of ratings... they [ratings] may be a lazy way of commenting on a skin but if associated with a signature they become a faster and perhaps more prolific method of giving/getting feedback.
If an artist reads...'Rated 1 by Treetog', he/she could perhaps request him to elaborate.
This happens with works that are moderated from time to time, so I can't see in real dramas doing it with this as well.
OK, if someone such as Treetog [because of his expertise in skinning] is swamped with requests of 'please explain' then perhaps it would have to be a no-obligation thing. After all, some of the people here are quite busy already and there's only 48 hours in a day...[I wish]....

So....admins. Any decisions made on whether there will be any changes? Going to stay the same, scrap the ratings, or require a comment?
