Getting new glasses....
Tuesday, February 14, 2012 by Jafo | Discussion: Everything Else
It's been too many years.....should'a got 'em probably 5 years ago....but you know....you get slack/diverted/etc....
I've had them since I was about 15 .... I blame school/study for now having crap eyesight....used to be able to spot a Wedgie 2 miles up in the air currents [Aussies will know what that is]....but not anymore.
Needless to say things went downhill....getting the script....
First....the original optometrist has long-since moved on...so it's a new one....then they lost my history...all 40+ years of it.... then their computers went down... and their camera for photographing the back of the eye.....
Then they didn't have decent frames [as good as what I already had....] ...so I had to leave them with my 'clear' glasses....and I am now either stuck looking dimly through the prescription sunnies....[and turn up the brightness on the monitor]...or all fuzzy with the ancient glasses I never threw out...but really should....[they're NQR now]
So.... I got a week of 'making do' till the new ones are done [into the good frames] ...then go through much the same with the prescription sunnies....
And just the first lot cost me $440 so it'll be all that again for the dark lenses [polarised].
Actually....
I think I know why I waited so long....![]()
Meanwhile....squinting at the screen typing this is an absolute pain....
It'll be quite politic if people 'tread softly' in my presence...as I am likely to strangle twits at the drop of a hat.....
....assuming I can see them....![]()

There's usually a barrier there....it was an FIM requirement that there wasn't.
Saturday night saw the reinstating of more barrier...but actually not long enough....had it been there he would have missed it anyway.
Re Race two of the Supers.... Mad Max came from stone mothering last to second.....
....He'd run wide at one likewise...but came on behind the field at 2.1
Kinda makes you wonder what all the other riders were doing....to get from last to second....![]()
He got to 325kph .... the fastest for a Moto is 336....![]()

I was sad to see Max leave MGP, i think he had a championship in him, if he had been able to get on a decent bike in the later years. '04 '05 was not a great time for him.

It's not enough though, and why did they want it removed?! there needs to be absolutely no thoroughfare across the grass. How many hairy moments in any race there have we seen.
If nothing else, perhaps a tragedy like this might spur FIA/FIM onto forcing LinFox to an upgrade. I know it's been said before that this is the reason F1 will not race at PI.

Not true.
Lindsay Fox/Fergus Cameron usually has a barrier there...the FORCE was on the part of FIM for it to be removed.
What you see at PI is purely the result of demands by FIM and Dorna as to how the track should be.
As for F1..... if a MotoGP bike can do 336 ....imagine what an F1 would do. It's the fastest circuit on the MotoGP calendar....the fastest circuit in Australia....you will NEVER be able to run F1 on it....as it will be required just to be flattenned if nothing else....Lukey Heights would see an F1 launched....into Cowes..... There's been several times 'mere' bikes have ended up 'in' with the spectators there...clearing the tyre barriers and fence....airborne...![]()
When you stand on startline....with nothing between you and the track.... and Doohan passes on your side of the white line... less than 2 meters away.... and race control says "324" [that's 201.3mph] and you're almost sucked out of your shoes by the slipstream....you get to appreciate just how fast that track is....
...and how dangerous it can be.
3 of the 6 fatalities in my presence have been at PI, one at Albert Park ...and 2 at Calder.
Believe me....this has nothing to do with LinFox.... nothing at all....![]()

Biaggi took a while to 'mature'.
He was a wee bit hot-headed .... and inclined to 'throw it into the weeds'. {i picked his bike up once...in the 250's] ...then there was the time he 'ignored' the black flag about 7 times...... the rule is 3...3 strikes and your arse is grass...![]()

Ah....life is never simple....
OPSM can't even make my script.
I waited 2 weeks to learn it's actually beyond them. Thanks for nothing.
I need to go through the whole thing again with a REAL Optometrist ...not these Franchise bullshit whatevers.
It's going to have to wait now till AFTER the GrandPrix. I can't afford NOT to have something I can actually see through....![]()

Just got my new glasses (and stardock account) today. Glasses are so expensive these days. $400 for Paul Smith Pirroni frames and $150 for the lenses. Free for me, thanks to good ol' parents' health insurance.

Ive always thought that there needs to be some obstruction in that grass area. Build a dirt wall or something...
My mates were at turn 2 as well, they said it was sickening, and to them, they saw it coming, yet he did not. Like you said youth and inexperience, a shame those two things have cost a young bloke his life.
Puts a damper on the main race, which was great.
