We need to give people more accolades

That's why we track the top skin authors per category and top skins and such. But we shouldn't stop there I think.
One of the things we've been throwing around is the idea of having a points system for users. So that people who are contributing to the site in other ways can get more recognition.
Basically the idea works something like this:
When you make a post, you get 1 point for every 10 responses it gets.
When you submit news that gets accepted, you get a point.
For every 10 responses you make you get a point.
For every 5 responses on news items you get a point.
For every 100 downloads your skin gets you get a point.
For every article we publish of yours you get 1 point.
For every 100 people who view your article you get a point.
For every 5 comments you make on a skin you get a point.
Now, to keep people from writing "junk" responses, they would lose a point for every response/comment of theirs we had to delete (so if the person responded "Yea!" as their post, we could delete it and the user would lose 1 point -- we would just discretion, only if it was apparent the person was making the weak response for points would we do that).
This sort of point system would then let us have a hall of fame for top contributors to the site.

I think the best rating is the utility and the pleasant use of a skin.
Is right to award the participation in forums, notices, comments, etc. Yes, but for the users like me (that my thoughts are in catalan - a non english langage) that they do not know to write in English, cannot put in the Web many comments. I am learning English too much quickly

But a good idea would be to award the skins by a system in which the users said as they are his prettier skins, and most useful.
this forum is a site where people can express themselves freely, and where to put ideas, not a site in order to accumulate points.
I prefer that a user says to me that skins is contented with my, and that has found them useful, not to accumulate points or to be number one. When I paid the Object Desktop, my intentions were to have one better interface; luck that I was decided to do skins, more is amused than to use them!

on this points idea, there is concern that "3 or 4" people will abuse it with lots of posts designed just to get points. surely this would be obvious to all concerned? in that case, if the people wont see reason, then just stop giving them points for posts?
my other concern is, what about posters who are more "reality challanged" than others? i just hope that they wont be discriminated against for making less directly relivent posts
feline is feeling paranoid, they may have found where i berried those stealth helicopters
