I didn't say I feel they should be obliged to skin all OS's. They should skin what they want. Period. Please don't pick a fight where one doesn't exist.

I didn't create the demands or requirements. Fight with those people. OK? 

All that was about was continuing software compatablities for the SD apps. PERIOD. I feel about skinning the same as you and Tim. PERIOD.

You've all read enough of my replies in the past to realize I have said the same as you: Skinners should skin for themselves. 

This type of attribution of demands on skinners to me is what's leading me away from this site (and has others before me). Skinners: Do what you want. I don't see a sign that says skin this system, and all others or else.

My entire thrust was that before SD discontinues apps for XP, etc. they should find out how many of their customers run which OS. 

But you know what? I've stopped caring, so please remove the ladder from my back, and deal with SD yourselves.

And I didn't say you should skin 7/vista or xp or skin at all. Do what you want. I've supported you 99% of the time. So why do you think I want you to skin XP? I'm sick of hearing and reading the OS fanboys.... You want the truth? All the OS's suck one way or another. Period.

I'm asking for the truth: Are skinners required to skin all OS's? Ask SD Admin, not me! What freaking rule did I ever create around this place?

Oh yeah, Tim... just btw, if you needed a computer and I found out, yeah. I probably would have bought you one or shipped you one of my old ones with XP on it.

I wouldn't worry about it Tim and Zubaz... it's not like anything we ever suggest is done. Like everything else I (and many others) ever suggested (wtf do I know, right?) it'll most likely be ignored.

Guys! Guys! Guys!...can we please get past this OS thing and not argue about who has what OS. What does it really matter in the end? Everyone has what the have. Everyone will skin what they skin. It's not going to make or break anyone. The only drawback I can see...if we can call it a drawback...is that whoever decides not to skin for XP "might" only lose a few cents in sales. In Stardocks position they "might" lose more...who really knows. But arguing over who has what OS is just plain stupid! As fast as OS's change these days everyone arguing here could have a outdated system tomorrow (figuratively speaking) and then the argument will start all over again. So can we please just get back to skinning?

Brad's OP mentions the issue of complexity due to OS variations....so it's pivotal to the discussion.

There IS ALREADY in place a 'requirement' that Master skins suit all three versions of the "current" OS, and it is that which can be argued is time-bombed as people WILL migrate to Win7 [and beyond] sooner rather than later.

It is that change which needs to be reflected in resource-direction when it comes to "what's next with Object Desktop?".

An individual's reluctance/reticence/indifference towards embracing newer, more current [relevant] OS vers is HIS choice.

Should Stardock also drag their collective heels as well - or move on?  THAT is the issue as I see it... 

Move forward, that is what SD needs to do. Look to the future. SD isn't going to be "ready" for the future that computing brings if it is looking backwards.

Never have I actually received any formal written confirmation of this requirement.

Let me put forth this scenario: Master skinner X submits a skin. It's rejected as a Masterskin because it does not support one of the 3 current OS. Now this skinner does not have the means to obtain a computer with said OS on for financial reasons. It's almost a catch 22 here. He cannot afford to buy the computer unless he sells some skins. But is unable to sell the skins without the OS.

No 'almost' about it....

I run windows7 x64.

There's not a lot I'd like to see other than RightClick with x64 bit support, stability and being saveable.

It would also be nice to see SkinStudio7 display the capability to fully skin the operating system it is perported to skin.

• RightClick gets a Vista/7-ONLY update.... throw XP under the bus!
• Any chance for making folder, theme and color changes as easy as editing..... CSS?
• VirtualDesktops needs to be in the System Tray, instead of lurking as a toobar...
• More subtle enhancements are needed for objects like Contextual Menus.... if I can edit a DIV element in CSS to make it look like it has raised edges, then why not enable the same for Windows 7?
• Fences needs a serious front-end rewrite...
• Make subelements (like CM from Desktop) open to granular skinning... like having different entrees from A-B-C choices, then add a drink and lunch is served. Yes, I do know that functionality exists. But again, some form of CSS tag embedding to make accessing it easier would be a true joy....
• Add a "format painter" to OD elements, across the board
• Take a good, hard look at themes in window managers like GNOME.
• Petition Microsoft to allow them to pass responsibility for GUI enhancements to SD; be their subcontractor
• Sell skinning "kits"... for $24.95, a user gets themes for all the major applications, with instructions and guides on how to edit them for use, and sale.
• Allow for different levels of functionality that are tied directly to whatever video/graphics components are installed on a user's system.

If you have no free box to put your old XP on, you could do what I do and run it on Virtualbox (although it will be nice when I don't have to skin it!)

As for OD - I think as other people have mentioned, full 64bit support must be the top target. Other than that... just keep on keepin on.

I prefer VMWare Player. That one now can create Virtual Machines also. And has decent graphics drivers,

I just reinstalled AveThumbnailResizer.  Something like that should be included in ODNT (perhaps in WindowsFX).
