Geez this XP argument gets really old. Speaking for myself...I started out using XP...and get this...it still works as well as the day I got it! Go figure! If people are so obsessed with PC's that they just have to the latest OS for whatever reason then by all means go for it. Personally I'm glad to say I don't have that obsession. I just don't see any reason to "move on" or get the latest greatest whatever when what I have still works. And I'm sure Vista or 7 are just fine...be happy with what you have. Just stop dumping on us XP users to justify what you do or don't do. And if everyone stopped skinning for XP today I wouldn't lose a second of sleep over and I'd just adapt or find a new hobby. Over the years I've collected tons of skins...many of which I haven't even used yet...so as far as customizing my desktop I'm pretty set. And a skin pretty much stays on my desktop for the time I'm adapting it to something else or making a dock for it...then it's on to the next skin.

Yeah sure I might see a new skin that doesn't include XP...but here's the kicker...I'll get over it...there are more important things in life than what my screen looks like or keeping up with the Jones'. And I don't have the follower mentality where I have to follow the crowd just because everyone else is doing it. It's not a matter of "Xtreme Procrastination" it's a matter of "it ain't broke so why fix it" or my finances just won't allow it...but even if they did I still don't see the reason or need to get rid of something that still works. My pc does what I need it to do and if at some point in time it doesn't...again...I'll get over it. And if you have the money to run out and buy every new gadget that comes out by all means go for it. Just please...stop trying to justify what you do by saying everyone else is procrastinating.

If skinning XP is such a pain in the ass then by all means stop doing it. Just because someone is whining about not being able to use the latest skin someone put out doesn't mean you have to cave in and do it...guess what...they'll get over it...and if they don't maybe they should try therapy...it's not the end of the world. I see skins I like that aren't made for XP so I just adapt them to Winstep and even then it's still not something I can't live without...I do it because I like a challenge. I bought my pc shortly before joining WC and until then I didn't know a pixel from a gigabyte...no one taught me how to do any of this...I didn't read any tutorials...I just dove in and started doing it until I figured it all out.

I've had lots of hobbies over my lifetime and this is just another one added to the list. I do this because I can...because I enjoy doing it and because I enjoy seeing other people enjoy what I do...and I'm not doing this for some promotion. If I'm noticed for what I do great...if not I'll live. When any of that stops so will I. So if any of this skinning isn't fun for you then just stop doing it...if skinning XP isn't fun for you or a pain in the ass stop doing it...the world will not end. If your not doing this for fun or to make a few bucks then stop doing it...no one is holding a gun to your head. If your doing this for a promotion your doing it for the wrong reasons.

And as far as Brad's end...he's in a business and hopefully enjoys what he does...and I certainly will not hold it against him because he did or didn't decide to continue to develop anything for XP anymore. I'm grateful for everything he's done so far and life goes on.

Why do threads like this always start so much bickering over stupid stuff like OS's Brad asks this question every year and most people give the same answers every years.

Then Stardock does what they want anyways.

Personally there is only one thing I would like to see in OD2011 and that is that all included programs work as advertised.

I would also like to see The Installer (Impulse) be able to recognize my OS and only show me the apps that are compatible.

That's an unreasonable requirement. Say I don't have a working xp machine. Is Stardock going to purchase one for me? Are you, Seth?

Why do I skin for all 3? Because I can. When my ancient xp lappy bites the dust, I'm not going to replace it.

Because Win 7 has such a good UI ODNT needs to focus on where it started, productivity.  That's where apps like RighClick, ObjectBar, Control Center started out and I thing there is still a need there.

WindowFX can do a lot and I hope that it does.  I hope you and Niel still have my wishlist for that app.

Keyboard Launchpad had a terrible UI and many of its best functions have moved to special keys on keyboards and mice but there is still room for that if the UI could be updated.  A video like that which was done for Fences would go a long way towards showing folks why such a tool is necessary.  There was a day when I lived off macros for sundry apps.

Virtual Desktop.  and I know what Jeff says but Compiz *has* to be possible on windows.  

A mouse gesture app?

Regarding the data previously mentioned (chart pasted below) on the state of OSes, the most important piece of data is not just the top line, but the entire 2010 data piece -

Moving Up : Win 7      (2% on average gain every month in 2010 so far)

Moving Down: Vista   (Down 5% so far in 2010)

                    XP     (Down 7% so far in 2010)

Little to no change: Linux, Mac OS, Win2000, Win2003

Although it doesn't say it, I am willing to bet most Win 7 users are 64 bit as most new systems come with 64 bit pre loaded.

If this trend continues, (and it probably will for the next year or more), Stardock will have itself a marginalized subscriber base if they do not concentrate on 64 bit Windows 7 support - that would be the smart business decision. It will also put them in the best position for being ready for Windows 8. They began with OS2 - they moved on since, and hopefully will continue to adapt to the changing market. Its nothing personal. They are not leaving people behind - their older versions and most current ones still work well with XP. Heck, it could be argued most of their software operates best on XP - did I mention I want WindowsFX, fully working ObjectDock, and IconX features?

My only request for the next Object Desktop is the inclusion of ObjectDock.   But that's just me.  I know it stands well on its own but I often wish that the app was part of the suite.  I have no qualm if it's never to be included.  But it's just one less app that I end up not using.

Continued Support for WB ...Special attention for DX 4 (AMAZING POWER) plugins,and abillity to be current with todays PC's ie..Ram , # of cores etc....., It might be nice to include CFX (not Plus) in OBDT.

I would like to add my 2 cent on the OS disscusion ..... I have always tried to skin for all OS's I could.Recently I had a crash on the machine I used to skin XP for WB's I havent replaced it! My wife claimed our Vista Machine.

Now I am not saying loose XP support! Just look to the future!

Brad For developers what if when we built a DX object we could export it as an app for  Windows mobile ,or Andriod etc...

As you have staed before the mobile market is growing at an unbelievable pace why not take advantage of skinners and allow our gadgets to be made into app's also help Stardock to bridge the gap between PC and mobile and help giving you an extra foothold in this new and huge market place.

Open the door for us (no other site in the world has such talented skinners dedicated to excellence ) and we can create the content!

I too have a fully functioning XP 32 bit computer along with one that runs Win 7 64 bit.  I find that I use or even turn on the XP computer very little lately.  That is not to say it doesn't work just fine.  Unfortunately the world of computers will not sit still for anyone, I think we all know that.  Stardock is and will also adapt to what the current technology is and a good amount of the people using thier software will also depending on desire and money available to do so.

We will all have our own desires as to what we want to see here.  If our disires match up with Stardock's all the better. 

I stand by my first wish, that no matter what is included in Object Desktop 2011 that it works.  Plain and simple. 

Just make sure windowblinds can actually fully skin Internet Explorer 8. It's now or never
