Here's me still 'at it' skinning the controls/cockpit of a Republic F105...buzzing over Melbourne at mach 1.5 and scaring the pants off the locals.....there's one of 'em just to the left of the HUD....he's the blip front/center of the head-up radar.

Not just altering xml....but hunting down photos of the aircraft to add 'bits' of detail to make things a little more realistic....things like the throttle quadrant and main radar cowl....are borrowed from various photos....re-skewed/sized/rotated/etc to suit.

The 'skinning' involved is about as 'complicated' as it gets.

If I get REALLY eager I'll start from scratch and make it all  fair-dinkum exact.  [there's poetic licence as is...to suit screen proportions/resolution.]

This is about how SKINNING differs from wallpaper making.....the result can be interfaced with.....buttons move....gauges read [all those gauges actually work]....

SKINNING's FUN .....

Jim...that's a screen shot, and were Jafo to make a wall of it, I think he'd need a permission from the folks who put out the software for the game.

Doc, I meant the controls/cockpit. Why not put those on a wall and upload? I would most definitely use it!!

Do you mean Copper Deck on 7?   Or for 7?

I rebuilt Copperdeck II a couple of years ago for Vista. A complete rebuild in sks6 (the WB5 version of copperdeck was screwing up my system so I decided to rebuild it from scratch). So it was a cinch to do a couple of tweaks to make it work in W7.

I was unfortunately never able to obtain permission to upload, or I would have done so then.

About 50% of that cockpit is graphics from/by Alphasim.  It's been 'altered' extensively to suit a widescreen monitor, with the 'scale' revised from 1024x768 to 1680x1050....correcting resolution/proportion distortions [the round bits are still round].  The other 50% is drawn [by me] and/or is photograph 'parts' altered to suit.

Most of the xml gauges are 'original', but several are modded to function differently/correctly and others are from entirely different aircraft/sources.

If/when I start from scratch and do a photo-real and accurate version.....that'll be appropriate to distribute.

Game screencaps are often/always[?] publicly distributed/shared but as wallpapers here on Wincustomize....we don't accept them as 'ours to distribute' contributions to the wallpaper gallery...
