While PC users seem obsessed in having a dock on their PC and use programs like ObjectDock to try to get something similar to what is on MacOS X, not all Mac users are enthralled by the Mac dock.

I believe that the Dock is a waste of space too, i've used it over quite a long period of time, but have found it to be eventually Anoying, there certain things that could be implimented into the startmenu that would bring back great apeal, or even if these little changes were added to the quicklanch, it would eradicate the Dock! To be honest, the dock is a useless program for just show, and nothing more!

It is funny, becuse all of my Mac Friends hide the dock, or set it to small and fixed size. I tend to keep mine out becuse I like it as eye candy. And thats all my mac is to me anyway. But I think that this artical has more truth to it then Steve Jobs would have it known. I was glad to see Object Dock adding things that you cant do on the Mac since it makes it more usefull for me, in the long run.

Finally, i'm not the only one who thinks that dock sucks because it takes too much screensize and it doesn't display the lables of the programs. Like they said in the review, if you have three word documents opened, then try to see the difference between them. That little thumbnail trick doesn't work.
The windows taskbar is much more handy if you ask me.

it sucks? come on!! maybe your dock sucks but mine does everything i want it to do. i absolutely hate icons on my desktop. with the quicklaunch bar and objectdock, i have all the shortcuts to apps and docklets i want. besides, when it's on autohide, how is it taking up desktop space?

You people are retards... What is the problem with the dock taking up any space? Unless you have enough garbage right on your desktop to run out of space, then it shouldn't be a problem....... The dock also doesn't stay on top, so there is no way it could hurt a full size application window. As far as start menu, the dock was never meant to be a start menu, it's meant to speed up things with switching applications without the finder on a MAC, or not having to move any windows to see the trash can on a MAC, or other little things like that ON A MAC... Of course if you are using ObjectDock, which Stardock should go to court and rot for, then you won't like it's Mac "usefullness" in a Windows taskbar environment... As far as it being pretty, YEAH... In case you haven't noticed, Macs are made to be pretty... Woreking with a pretty mac invokes creativity...

I use my OSX Dock every day . It is wonderful . It is really a hoot to see the opinions about this . You either like it and use it or move on . There is no Windows dock that even comes close , imo . Really funny -

I personally never liked the dock. It was the docklets that did stuff better then dx. Now that avedesk is out, thanks to andreas, I have all of the docklets that used to lock up in the corner with out a background arranged in the position that I like. When it comes down to it, the taskbar is much better suited for a place to minimize things to.

Some of that has a point or two, most of it does not. In reality this isn't talking about apple docks, this is talking about docks in general. Apples dock and Object dock work much the same, and pretty much anything they say in that list is the same for both. And on top of that, their #1 reason is utter BS. No one has ever lost a file by pulling it out of the dock, it'll do the same thing OD does. Pull out the program it poofs, easy to add back. If you pull out a running document, say something you're working on in photoshop, if goes right back to the dock.
The person that wrote that article is probably one of the sad idiots that will swear till the day they die nothing is better than OS9, which is the ugliest, ill concieved, hard to navigate OS ever made.

I'm surprised, Frogboy, that you would post such a biased article. Not only does it bash the Apple OS in general, but it attacks something which OB EMULATES!!!! Saying the Mac dock sucks, is flat out saying the ObjectBar mac dock ripoff sucks too! Neither suck. The mac dock still looks much better than OB, and runs much smoother on the mac (thanks to quark xtreme vs crappy active x or whatever windows decided to call the rip).

You know there is always someone thinking somethng sucks no matter what it is. I have been using OSX for a while now and I love the dock. It is much more flexable then people think and if you think it's too large just shrink it and set Maginfy so you can see the icons better if you need to. I hate the cluter of a bunch of shortcuts on the desktop. but that is just me. So on my XP computer I also use Object Dock which is a great app. But whatever, some will like it and some will hate it, just like everything else in life. I just wish people didn't think they need to make such a big deal about it akk! lol

My Taskbar when the way of my Windows Luna theme, a long time ago. So if the mac version of the dock is have as useful as Object Dock I can't see the problem.
But then maybe the problem is that the mac interface is so much better than windows already, that the dock isn't required?!?!

By saying that just because you don't agree with him you are retards, doesn't also give you the right (especially if you feel he was wrong by him doing so) to say he sucks, and should be lined up and shot. And I'll back up whole heartedly that the person who wrote that article IS retard, or at least a half wit. He's not talking about apples dock, and praising object dock, he's bashing docks altogether for the most part. People that write these types of articles must have grand lives if the only thing in the world they find wrong and harmful to their existence is a tiny PROGRAM and whether or not it takes him all of 2 seconds instead of 1 to find the right word document.
