Internet collapsing?

Wow, something's happening on the net this week.

Worldwide Internet traffic is distinctly down for the past couple of days even as response time gets worse and packet loss grows.

Whoever wrote those worm viruses needs to be shot.

Microsoft OS, Linux, and Macs are just as vunerable. The reason no one is attacking Linux and Macs is because they can't hurt as many people. If you want to prove how great you are by attacking innocent people, are you going to attack Linux systems or Microsoft Systems? The shear numbers decide who is targeted. Look at the NY Trade Center as an example.

And I don't care how many security flaws you plug, someone will find a way. Personally, I think Microsoft is doing the best job possible under the circumstances.

Reaper: I have a tip for you. Don't become a programmer. In that profession you will be wasting people's time by making bugs. Sooner or later they want you to be shot. Sounds fair doesn't it?



legitimate programmers wouldn't have anything to fear bugs or not.Having said that shooting people for property crimes( and this IS a property crime ) is dumb.

Having said that a lot of people are losing time , money and are being fustrated by these ' savvy programmers ' that write viruses. Something more than the slap on the wrist is required. and yes these people ARE responsible

well ive read through a lot of these comments microsoft knew about the hole which allowed the blaster to run rampant all its top level clients had the hole blocked mothhs before this worm came along home users are the ones hurt the worst by it. but on the same note theres a white paper on there site about how to secure a network from top to bottom remember the internet is just a network nothing more control the ports to your machine worms dont happen simple if you dont know how to do this run the updates run a fierewall these things a simple to do a little time towards IP security goes a long way i havent had a worm or virus in 6 years

I simply would like to say viruses were first though of annoying the heck out of your neighbor or friend. these days you have viruses that aren't so friendly. in my opinion we should get them to work not to death.

Would you buy a car if the dealer told you that the manufacturer had sorted out most of the mechanical problems....but that you could return it to the dealer for weekly updates and that he had not secured the keys so others might have access to your vehicle? Micro$oft is not a "victim".

You know, I was searching around a little today..I found that people who use things Like mIRC and other IRC type file sharing networks..To use them you have to lose your firewall, if you dont open up ports and shut your firewall off, you cant download from someone..HHmmmm..Seems to me someone was helping out the Anti PiraTE crew by developing this worm...or that worm..See if you have to turn your firewall off to Download it leaves your butt wide open for a virus....Kinda like unprotected sex.....So I wonder also how many of those people that are currently getting knocked offline are software rippers..??? Makes ya think Hmmmm...Am I wrong cuz I dont use mIRC or anytype of stuff like that...So I had to go by what my school chum told me and then showed me......He said he can monitor the port during the DL..But what if you walk away for a minute or 2..

Well the goverment and a few universities and businesses are working on the Internet2. Its suppossed to be super fast and more secure.

Just having an open port does nothing. It's having an open port *and* having something on your side listening that's insecure that's the problem. mIRC doesn't even listen unless it knows there's a file coming in, AFAIK, so it's fine to open the necessary ports. You don't have to open all ports, just the ones it's using.

the Blaster worm and it's cronies didn't need host software on the target PC unless you count Windows .

just run a bloody firewall , updated AV software and an adware killer ( Spybot or Adaware ) and you'd be safe enough , if you run Windows ( which I assume would be just about everyone since this is WINcustomize.com )
