Sizes for each separate part of skin
Friday, November 6, 2009 by diva42 | Discussion: Skinning
I am completely stuck with skinstudio 6.4 I was told to study other peoples skins which I have done with a few, I want to know what
Size to make each individual section ex. start menu top what size am I supposed to create it in photoshop?
Ther are no tutorials that I found to help the wiki doesnt help me nothing online leads me to understanding how to even make a
beggining there has to be a starting point what size is the start menu each skin Ive looked at all have different sizes so how am I
supposed to know if I should make it 1024x768 or 300x500 really there has to be a set size somewhere.
The only thing I do know is the wallpaper sizes which doesn't help me in the least as that is not sent into skinstudio for adding to
the skin.
What am I failing to understand?
Thanks, Lisa

The All Programs mouseover in XP cannot be skinned. The mouseover background comes from the classic colors section. To get there: Change skin colours > look for the combo box there at the top, select Show skin defined colors > Menu Highlight. That will give you color for the background. The mousover text for the All Programs is from there as well: Selected item text.

Bear in mind that section also affects menu colors and menu text colors throughout the WB.

I don't really like the squareness of it I know I've seen other blinds that have an image in that area so I'm guessing thats the more programs background that I will need to play around with to get it looking more stylish.

Glad it worked for you...but, listen to vStyler too....it DOES affect other areas of the skin as well. Any more glitches, just post back here and we will help you sort it out. ![]()

In Vista, you can use a mouseover image. In XP, what I have done, was "fake" an image there. On the All Programs panel, I would actually draw the outline of a button there. Then when mousing over the All Programs panel, it looks like you put an image there! You just have to make sure you line your "fake" image up correctly, then adjust the margins, so that the mouse color doesn't got outside of that outline.

I get half the image I placed this in the more programs arrow because of a skin I was checking out had theirs set there
only thing she has an image with 3 I only had one but I did use hers on mine and its the same it only shows 1/2 the image
I looked to see if she had any setting in the paint margin thing and nope all set to zero I did same with my 1 ok hope you
follow me I know I can confuse the greatest of minds lol, so now what to do?
PS When I hit ctrl print screen the mouse overs on the right side do that I have no idea why its fine othewrwise.

I think you misunderstood me. I had never been able to get the actual image thing to work for me. So, I came up with this:

I drew the outline directly on the All Programs Panel. Then I made my painting margins to enclose the "fake" image...using the top, bottom, and side margins of the outline. That image is from my Kayonite II blind...download it if you want to see what I did.

This is for anyone who stumbles on this thread its a tutorial on how to cut up an image with guides its pretty easy thought I'd share my find http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/basics/image-slicing/

If you follow those instructions to step 5, then use the slice tool instead of the marquee tool, and choose "save for web and devices" from the file menu when you're all done slicing all parts, you can eliminate the copy and pasting to new document part. It's a lot quicker.
