This is going to be a political rant, but I think it's important to discuss, being as most of us are artists, or those who appreciate art, and art is about expression, and this is about the freedom of expression.
It has come to my attention that President Obama has partnered with Egypt at the United Nations Human Rights Council in backing blasphemy laws--laws that would limit free speech, in order to not offend those engaged in delusion, a/k/a people of faith. To say I'm agitated by this, being as I am an atheist, is an understatement.
I voted for Obama in the hopes that our ailing health care system in the US would be healed. He's let me down big time on that one, and I have to admit I feel like I was tricked. I loathed the "stubborn cowboy" image that George Bush portrayed, but this "compromise at any costs" crap that Obama has been yielding is beyond nauseating, and now it's jeopardizing my right to mock delusionists, which was a right that is protected by the first amendment to the constitution.
Don't get me wrong. I've grown out of the stage where I claim allegence to Satan because Satan is a symbol of rebellion and independence, and I've tempered my selfish glee of actively tormenting Christians about the paradoxes of their faith, first because it's pointless and second because I've realized a lot of the downfalls of being an atheist (you can't comfort anyone whose grieving for a loved one, you're powerless when someone is ill; there are certain situations in life that beg the ability to manipulate the future, and simple science just will not provide that ability). But the fact that if taken to full fruition, siding with Egypt in upholding blashphemy laws, means that I won't have the ability to defend myself in arguments of faith without opening myself up to the possibility of imprisonment has me livid. I thought this guy was going to make my life better...instead, he's taken the few things I have left (free speech) and made my life worse!
Nobody wins in a compromise, and all Obama has been going is compromising. I don't believe McCain would have done much better, but I could have written in "Mickey Mouse" for president or voted for whomever was running as the Libertarian candidate (yeah...forgeiting my vote, which I've done in every other election except the one Reagan won) but at least I wouldn't be feeling so gullible and naive right now.
I'm an artist, and I've been fortunate to have been born in a country that was founded on the idea that people should be free, where freedom to believe as one wishes and is free to express that is a guaranteed right. If I want to create a wallpaper that mocks Islam, in this country I should be able to do that without fear of imprisonment.
I can't determine if Obama truly believes that free speech should be throttled when it comes to religion, or if he's sided with this UN resolution to trick the Muslims in Afghanistan into thinking that he's their friend to put them off guard when it comes to the conflict that we're waging there.

Wow, a lot of off topic crapping ang whining. But back to the original post which seems to be forgotten, this is what happend because of people voting for Obama. How many voted him for no other reason then the color of his skin? Iv'e seen it before, in my home town. A man fired from his job for sexual harasment, but gets in as mayor because his ethnic group voted for him anyway just because.

People, for whatever reason, feel there must be something bigger than them. There is no proof, either way, that god exists or doesn't. And there never will be. The bible is not proof that god exists.

I've read that one through cover to cover 4 times, taught study classes on for 14 years while I was married to my first husband who was a Baptist pastor, audited and took notes in the classes he took at seminary to achieve his PhD in theology, not to mention attended several conventions and seminars on it the entire 16 years of my first marriage. I'm glad you find instruction and help from it, but I find the Tao Te Ching to be a lot more helpful and peaceful in my own personal life.
The color of his skin had nothing to do with the reason I voted for him. I think more people voted for him because he appeared to be the polar opposite of his predacessor, than those who voted for him due to the color of his skin. I personally voted for him because I work in the health care industry and I know how broken it is. It hurts me to type hospital reports all day and see just how many people are going without their insulin, heart medication, or psychiatric meds because they can't afford it; it grieves me to face the dictation and hear just how many people aren't getting their mainentance health care, finding out too late to do anything about it, that they have cancer. I was led to believe, through campaign promises, that fixing the broken health care system was a top priority for this president, and that is the prime reason I voted for him.
However, if I thought the Libertarian candidate would have had a shot, I would have voted in that direction. Unfortunately, we're a 2 party country, and we have to work with it the way it is.

I have never understood this mindset. You voted for Obama because you thought he had a better chance? Why? So you could say you voted for the guy that won?
The only wasted vote is the one that is not cast.
I wonder how many people thought this way.... It is entirely possible that a libertarian could have a chance if the ones with this midset had voted for the person they thought was best for the job.

Why didnt you then?
Having done that for every election after Reagan's first run, I decided to try something else. What's that they say about the definition of madness being doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result?
The fact is, each individual vote DOESN'T count, because the election is determined by the electoral college, not to mention the amount of voter fraud we have going on in this country. For a while I was ready to just give up and quit voting all together, thinking it a total futile effort, but when my daughter asked me if I would vote with her and I told her I was going to sit this one out, she got this horribly hurt expression on her face and asked me, "but what about all those ladies during the suffrage movement who put themselves out there for your right to vote?" and that's when I changed my mind about not voting. I vote simply to honor the sacrifice made on my behalf in the past that gives me the right to cast my vote.

If I were American I would definitely have voted for Obama...
2 reasons.
That Palin creature was/is an embarrassment.
And the quite racist comment....'because he is black'.
I was alive [and aware enough] to remember the 'I have a dream' speech....and saw Obama's candidacy as simply too good an opportunity to overlook/ignore.
Whether he is better or worse than another President before or after....only time would tell anyway...so give him the chance.... and maybe put one more tiny nail in the coffin of racial prejudism.
People who argue it is about the better candidate, not what colour his skin is are really missing the point....this particular point....

While running the economy into the ground, tripling the deficit, putting our children in debt, moving the country massivley towards socialism, infinging on free speech rights and deciding which news outlets should have access to the govt.
I don't like the trade off. Racism will always exist.. everywhere. If someone can name me a country it doesn't I'll kiss my own a$$
Keep an eye on the upcoming Virginia Governor's race, It will be a strong indicator as to how long he and his cronies will be around.
Is that any less prejudicial ?

Racism is not inherently American nor is it solely Caucasian. There is racism in many forms and can be found in every country and even those that claim to be free of it are not. The colo(u)r of one's skin should never be a reason to vote for someone.
I wouldn't doubt that many people voted against McCain/Palin because of their 'racial prejudice' towards them. Take one nail out and put another nail in.

Religion is such a touchy subject! In reality when we find out if we are happy with the choices we made in faith and life it will too late to change them.
I had a few things to say but it all boils down to something like this...if you want to know how to work your DVD player you read the manual...if you want to learn PhotoShop
you read online tutorials (or find a good teacher!)..if you need intsructions on life and experinces well I don't know but 1 GoodBook to look in.
No need to start a war where there doesn't need to be one!
