The initial comment.. the forums could have done without and was uncalled for.

Most of what I have learned over my life about the bible and God has come from close  family, most of who I have lost. It is not only an insult to me but them as well.

Matthew 5:39: ""But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also."

John 8:7 "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

Life lessons that we'd be a better person if we followed, John?  Really?

What you just said, "when someone insults you, you can choose to act however you like"...you know what book says that?  The Satanic Bible...it's the 5th Satanic Statement, "Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!"

I'm not going to fault you for it.  It's human nature.  Humans are both good and evil, light and dark; accepting your dark nature is to be a fully whole person.  But that's not what is required of Christians.  Christians are to deny themselves, to take up their cross and follow Jesus, sacrificing their will in order to be worthy of His sacrifice.

I probably know more about the Bible than you or Vampothika, but I'm not going to give my opinion on it, since everybody has their opinion about it, and as long as it's not being used as a weapon, and cherished by those who love it, thereby protecting it from public scrutiny and mockery, it's all good.  But I don't think it further's your argument with me, that believing as you do would do me good, when your next post displays an angry, vengeful person, who doesn't forgive, who doesn't follow Christ, who doesn't love his neighbor as himself.

If it doesn't help you to be a more peaceful, loving person, how in the world is going to help me, when I'm WAY more piss-off-able than you are? (I'm a woman, afterall).

Yeah, one should turn the other cheek, I am however not perfect and that has little bearing on this forum or the point.

also, please don't assume that you know more about the bible or anything else for that matter, it's presumptuous.

and of course, your not the one that was called ignorant.

regardless, I'm even less willing to debate christianity with people that don't believe in God than I am Beck with people that never watch it.

If you have an issue with somebody, surely it it better to say what's needed via PM... rather than making it public.

Again, it is highly unlikely that you were the focus, but that the quote was generalised and used to demonstrate that Christians believe the Bible IS God's Word and is proof that He/She exists, and to say otherwise is (to some Christians) ignorant.

Please, let's not make a mountain out of a molehill.

calling people's personal beliefs/opinions 'ignorant',  particularly associated with religion....is well...pretty much guaranteeing an inflamed response.....now isn't it...

if there was 'proof'....everyone would 'believe'.........as to whether they would then choose to follow, would be another question...

I tend to agree.....it spells out a decent way to live life and respect each other.....whether you are a believer...or not....they are good guidelines for life....... it's just a pity that religions have so often distorted the message....for their own gain...

true. but when the laws start to infringe on ones personal liberties and freedoms of expression.. they are no longer viable and should be challenged for the bindings of oppression they are, unfortunately it seems obama is headed toward a opressive style rule. ( one can only have the personal freedoms we allow).

Any religious topic is volatile.. tho really this topic is about personal freedom not so much a regligious debate, ones right to use or not use blasphemy, which should be between the blasphemer and his god, or lack there of. When we lose the right to believe or not believe as we wish, everyone loses.. Freedom is a fine line folks and once we hand it away, only a war will win it back.

Remember folks belittleing others for their beliefs is not conducive of a mature community, sure debate all you wish. But please remember there is another person on the other end you are talking to, and they are entitled to be treated with respect.
