WindowBlinds 7 Beta Bug reports

Thursday, June 4, 2009 by ZubaZ | Discussion: WindowBlinds

The new WindowBlinds beta has been released.  This build focuses on working with Windows 7 (and maintaining functionality in Vista and XP).

Known issues:

  • Compact start menus are right out.
  • Paint and Write titlebars are  . . not right.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your WB system information from the WB app, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

WindowBlinds v6.80.TBD (New BETA Build) 9/21/2009 - Coming MONDAY

  • Windows XP toolbar and animations settings are back under Settings.
  • Windows Vista sidebar skin settings are back under Settings.
  • Windows Explorer backgrounds tab has been added for Windows XP, Vista AND 7.
  • NEW! COOL! Textures tab added!
    • Allows users to apply a textured effect to your skins titlebar, taskbar and startmenu.
    • For skin authors, there are now three new sections in the skin to easily apply a texture to frames, taskbar or the startmenu without worrying about cutting it up and aligning it correctly.
    • Now skins can also include their own textured versions to show in the skin list.
  • Added support for enlarged menus on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
  • Some additional skin sections added for Vista / 7 including a new shadow section.
  • Fixed a bugs where the start button was clipping on multiple monitor Windows 7 boxes.
  • A feature that allows users to drag wallpapers to the large preview area and it will copy them into the wallpapers folder

This may be covered already, but I have no titlebar.

It looks like a bad skin load. Did reapplying fix it?

Are other skins ok?

I have this issue too. It is a random thing with me, and seems to happen most with Firefox, and happens with every skin I try. I have tried reapplying the skins, but it's hard to tell if it helps or not, since this is such a random occurrance.

Usually, if the titlebar is gone, I just close whichever application is giving me the problem and re-open it, then it's fine. A bit annoying, though.

Exactly.

I get this with FF, skinstudio, Windowblinds config, and photoshop (randomly).

Oh, and I forgot to mention that this happens on two of my Vista machines. One is 32-bit, one is 64-bit.

The no titlebar issue at random on some apps is known (incorrect files installed), and will be resolved with a new beta build that I suspect will show up early next week.

It seems as though WB7 does not want to fully apply a skin at times.

I was trying to apply a new skin, but it would skin one window, and not another; it forgot to skin the taskbar; then after trying to apply it about 5 or 6 times, it finally took.

Yeah several apps had to be closed and opened to become skinned.

On several occasions today while testing some skins Windows explorer crashes when double sizing the taskbar. Not when making it double sized but when reducing it back to normal size. This only happens when Internet Explorer 8 is running. If no windows are open this does not happen.

Skip that, it was just a coincidence that it happened 3 times in a row. It crashes for any old reason I suppose. Loading Aero and then reloading a skin corrects any unskinned parts that go classic upon explorer crashing.

What are the changes in the newer version that I spotted on Impulse today?

FYI.. Skinstudio 6 works like a charm on Win 7. Actually, I think it runs smoother than on Vista.

No noticable differences with the latest update either. It's running smoooooth.

FYI- I just installed W7 on a newly built computer. I began with an ATI Radeon graphics card. With that card, the start button worked perfectly.

Then once I was all set up, I put my NVidia (MSI) graphics card in. Now I have problems with the start button being cut off on the right side, as has been mentioned.

Just thought I'd point out that this could possibly be an incompatibility with different types of video cards.

Also, it seems like the explorer background bitmaps aren't applying in W7. This means that the "glassiness" of some skins isn't so glassy.

Oh, and I do have "enable transparency" checked in my Windows display settings.

Yeah, I figure it'll be fixed. Just thought I'd mention it, though.

My little bug report : Installed on Vista Prem 32bit every time I changed a skin it would go into the classic skin. If I reboot the skin would apply. When I opened a window there would be no title bar. Didn't know how to go back to WB6 because Impulse said WB6 was installed and WB7 was installed also so I did a system restore.

same here, but on vista ultimate x64, also every other day (about) Vista booted up with WB running but only a classic skin visible. When applying another skin, the application proces went ok, but the skin was still classical. I uninstalled wb7 and reinstalled wb6 the problem went away.

While hovering over the windows button, the button is cut.

If clicked or if I move out, the button is drawn complete

Edit: Tested with "Aero Metal" and "Diamond". With "Leo" the button is always drawn correctly

I took th Beta Windows Blind off my system it tended not to play well with Fences and Cursor FX, if I changed themes or skins in most cases Fences would not work cursor FX would revert to the Windows default cursor, this is a known issue and still occurs when I change themes in Windows 7 RC 1 I like fences and had to play and play with it to get it to function properly after changing a Skin. Since I use Winstep extreme the next start program  I real do not need WB.

OldMsgt: It sounds like that is a bug in Fences rather than WB and likewise CFX reverting its cursor would be a bug in that app.
