What's so great about twitter?
Because I just don't get it.

I have heard so much hype about "Twitter" so, I decided to try it. After a couple days, I just don't see the point. I realize that I must be missing something. So, if there is any one out there who is a twitterer or just has an opinion about it, please share with us your thoughts.

This doesn't sound like anyone "hacked" anything. Just that she got befriended by a psycho. Happens every day in real life, so it's bound to happen on the Internet.
If you live your life in fear, you will have lived no life at all.
Living is risk. The odds of you being killed by a drunk driver and massively higher than being murdered by a serial killer you met online. Do you stop driving, walking across the street, or going anywhere? Of course not.
Politicians, priests, corporate advertising agencies, and now the ratings driven for dollars main stream media all use FEAR to control you, to make money and to hold power one way or another.
I refuse to let them do this to me. I won't be made afraid.Even im not afraid of any consequences but this was a reply to divyasugar who said " Orkut is much better than twitter"

While I had it (for all of about 2 days) I thought I had found my dad on Twitter, until I asked him if he was on it and he said, "what's Twitter?" That answered my question and confirmed to me yet again how pointless it is. I'm not much for drivel.
i asked the same thing as you dad when someone mentioned twitter
im tired of hear people ask do you twitter
the next time i'll say yes my husband makes me twitter all the time

I have recently come to the realization that Twitter can be good for one thing- Businesses. It's a way for businesses to promote themselves for free. Even churches have gotten involved. They tweet about their upcoming services and conferences. And businesses can tweet about their upcoming specials. So, I guess it does have it's place.

Like they don't have enough avenues to force advertising down our throats already! Sorry, not that I waste my time on Twitter or other social networks, but a social network should remain just that, a place for individuals of similar interests to interact, bus as always, corporate wheels find a way to roll over places they shouldn't be.

Not really. As far as I know you have to choose to "follow" them in order to get their tweets.

That's not really the point. Corporations thrust advertising upon us at every opprtunity - in our newspapers and letter boxes; on TV and roadside billboards; on the radio and the internet... just about every site we visit - and now they want to infiltrate social networks designed specifically for personal blogs and interaction. How long before the lure of the almighty corporate dollar persuades Twitter and other social networks to extend the commercial content until it's emblazeoned all over the site, in personal blogs and associated popups/popunders attached to Twitter, etc?
To me, it's only a matter of time, given the history of internet advertising. Moreover, it's a case of overkill that in no way benefits the consumer. At the end of the day, the high cost of advertising jacks up the price of goods and services.... meaning that the consumer loses while the advertising execs win big time. And how many people can honestly sat that they appreciate paying more for goods and services when annoying, over-the-top adverstising is the reason they're paying more?
A friend recently complained that not only did he get his payslip and cash in his paypacket, but also an advertising pamphlet promoting company and subsidiaries products - not at an employee discount but at regular market prices. which totally stinks when the products are non-essential and he and his workmates are among the lowest paid in the country.
Is there no lowest level to which they'll stoop? Probably not... and instead of opting to follow companies on Twitter, etc, it'll be a case of finding a way to opt out... and there won't be one. More than enough reason for me not to join... on top of all the other reasons not to become a 'Twit' If/when I want to become a twit, I'll do it on my own terms, thank you.

I'm nothing if not illogical and inconsistent. I live in the state of paradox (pair-o'-docs) bordering weird and paranoia.
