(1 pack/day smoker for 23 years) currently 40 years old.)
I quit smoking tobacco cigs about 3 weeks ago... with the help of a nicotine replacement.
It's an electronic cigarette, which means no tar, no carbon monoxide or any of the other free radicals contained in smoke. What you inhale is water vapor, nicotine, and a little food grade flavoring (right now for me that means Apple). I can breathe so much better already and food is starting to taste different/ better too.
For the first couple days, I was missing the tobacco "hit", but not really craving a tobacco cig, 'cuz I was still getting the nicotine in a very similar way. Mind you, I tried a couple of brands like Blucigs, but the only one that gave me the "hit" I was looking for is GreenSmoke.
Sorry, if that seemed like a plug... but if someone here is gonna get one, they are not cheap and I am trying to help you save some money... not to mention the disappointment of a shi**y product.
I am feeling really confident that I can quit the electronic cigarette by the end of the year.

Congratulations to everyone strong enough to quit. I smoke and am not proud of it. Used to be 2 packs a day. Now I'm down to half a pack. Its very true each person has to find their own way to do it. As for me...weaning myself away a little at a time seems to work. Eventually I'll get to the zero mark. For everyone who did...... WAY TO GO!
Food for thought. I used to live in Brooklyn NY. When I left there back in 97 cigs were up to $6.00 a pack. Now I read in one post that the price is up to $10 to $12 each! Screw that.

I quit smoking around 5 or more years ago. I wanted to get cable internet and the only way to afford it was to stop smoking. (One addiction for another. 
). To tell the truth I was never really a heavy smoker. I didn't smoke cigarettes, though, but a pipe and cigars (Loved those Cuban cigars.) instead. A pouch could last me over a month. Tobacco can cost a lot in Canada. A pipe is a lot of work to maintain as well so you need more than one.

well... it's about an hour out...from 3 years!!....and not one smoke.... 
can't tell ya how proud I am of ya mate.....

They have been $10 for a while here in N.Y., that's $7,280.00 a year for Me because I smoked 2 packs a day....now they just went up again, $11-$12 depending where you get them......that's potentially $8,736.00 a year if I continued the way I was....
