I HAVE to quit. Like, last year have to quit. HAVE TO, HAVE TO. As in, probably to late but still have to. Did I mention I HAVE to quit smoking? Oh. Did I mention that I can't? I could go into the why's of why it's so hard for me and all that but I would bore half of you and chase the other half away. But, I HAVE to quit. I just smoked a cigarette for every time I used the word 'quit'. FYI.
This thread is about quitting 'smokling' right? Because I HAVE to quit. I've been TOLD by people with letters after their names and all that stuff, while they held xrays and test results and all that stuff...and they said 'You HAVE to quit." Meaning, me. I. I have to quit.
I could say something, but someone(s) might get pissed off. I don't want to piss anyone off. I just want the smoking to be over. (I just smoked 4 more)
Sigh.
blah, blah, blah. yadda yadda yadda.
Okay. That's all I got to say 'bout that.
Carry on.

You have to want to quit, or it won't work. I tried hypnosis and other things, they didn't work. I quit when I finally realized it means to breathe or not to breathe. The doctor told me I have COPD, which is a catch all term for you have emphysema, bronchial something or ...not sure if there is an other. Anyway, some time after that, could be a month, maybe 2 or 3 is when I said enough. Anyway Po, you are the one to decide. Whatever you do, we still love yeah!!!

Smedley, that's a load of old bunk... bollocks if you're English or Australian. You CAN give up smoking... YES YOU CAN.
If the Patches aren't enough help, try taping/sewing your mouth shut... tho knowing you, you'd inhale through your nostrils, or adapt your ears to draw back just to get that nicotine fix.
The one thing that's possibly an issue with taping/sewing your mouth shut is that nicotine gum they recommend when trying to quit.... after a while it gets mighty stale and it's a real bastard when it get entwined and stuck to your dentures.
If you're having difficulty quitting, another way you could try to quit is to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for living under water in scuba gear. I heard smokes are pretty hard to light that way.... plus your fingers get too wrinkly to hold the smokes, not to mention fitting in a smoke due to having a mouth full of snorkel.
It's just a thought. ![]()
Seriously, Po, I hope you can give up the smokes, cos you'll feel all the better for it health-wise and have more cash at your disposal through not having to buy them.
All the best with it, bud... and to anyone else contemplating or trying to quit. ![]()

I had a spontaneous pneumothorax of the right lung back in 96. I was told it was likely due to my 2 1/2 pack a day habit. I had my last cigarette on the way to the emergency room....I experienced the most excruciating pain ever on that day - it's quite barbaric how they stab the chest tube into the body, through muscle and cartilage, etc.... Funny thing is that I quit using alcohol and other drugs in 1983. I was hanging on to the cigarettes, and always told myself that I would probably only ever quit if something bad were to happen. Lessen learned.....I feel much better without the cigarettes and know that you will too. Make the decision and stick with it - one day at a time!

This time - only one of several attempts - it is 16 month for me, which is the longest time for me and the greatest incentive to never go back. After 16 months I'd be a freakin' lunatic to even consider smoking again.... and while I might have a few sheep loose in the top paddock, I'm not that crazy.

Good lord.
Single handedly you'll bring the cigarette companies to the poverty line.
876.36 would probably last me over 5 years....
That's only just over 2 packs a day, about what I was smoking before I quit.
How many for you Jafo, per day?

I haven't smoked for over 2 years, but I can't offer much in the way of advice. I didn't use any patches or any other aids; just quit.
Yea, I wanted one for a while ... still think about it occasionally ... but the worst urges passed after a week or two.
Bottom line, for me, is I wanted to quit more than I wanted to smoke.

I am 26 now and started smoking when I was 18....it's almost 8 yrs. now and during this whole period, my cigarette consumption kept increasing. Since january this year, I almost started smoking about 20 cig's per day......recently I just discovered some cuts on my tongue, though i haven't shown myself to any physician yet, but certainly limited myself to only 1 cigarette per day and plan to quit it completely by the next week....also I read about it on the internet, that quitting cig's and rinsing the mouth with warm saline water can cure this problem in a few weeks, if it does'nt then i shall be visiting a doctor.
