Moderators, read here!

and i do consider the fact that a bunch of people uploading causes the need for more bandwidth or site performance issues.and i know that can possibly be why you guys are so strict on what gets uploaded....(i might be wrong) BUT:::
when a skin or wallpaper goes through "moderation" it shouldnt be judged by moderators in a sense of quality it should only be judged on copyright infringement protocol, and antiprofanity protocol.
you should let the consumers/end users/downloaders choose wheather its good or not and how can anyone do that if its stuck on a non directly accessed site which is its makers profile?? if it were place in the gallery automatically the maker would know almost within a few days if its any good or not! one persons likings are different from anothers.
more simply put, if the moderators dont like what you have rendered or made in a illustration program or whatever you use, it shouldnt matter to them! because thats the moderators opinion, not the opinion of the people downloading!
for and example, i actually browsed all the way from 5 star- to 2stars and saw all kinds of professionaly done wall papers and skins rated at 2 stars! and some of the two star rated content was way better than the 5 star stuff!
im finished bitching you ge my drift!

i do see your point Jafo! thats really true!
i guess i have a non-descriminative point of view as to whats acceptable in a WC gallery, i dont know tho,, i really can picture a desktop environment with "mantlepiece" art incorperated into it! and at every aspect i.e. skins, walls or whatever...
dont get me wrong i dont really stand up to a lot of whats in the galleries as far as my current set of wallpapers go! hell i only have 11 downloads on the only one that is public ...
this was just to see what goes on in the moderation process and get peoples opinion.....i definitly know that this isnt a new subject either but appearently alot of people have a say on this subject! and i am happy to have created a popular subject to conversate about!
thx for your views everyone! keep this going!

No. He's usually holding a flask and begging for sweat or some other personal bodily fluid. I hear he has a 'collection'.
Thank you, Jafo!

There must always be a buffer. This keeps all in the universe in balance. The last time they removed that buffer, Tom Hanks did 'The Da Vinci Code' and Britney Spears was allowed to have a second baby.

As far as I know, and I may be really wrong here but I think Wallpapers are the only things that might get stuck in a personal gallery. The Wallpaper Gallery is HUGE and therefore gets that kind of attention, I've seen some Windowblinds in the main gallery that needed serious work but they were there...you threaten to not put anything more up here and you won't find any compassion. Nobody would want to see you leave but they aren't going to beg you to stay either. Take that as you will.

If this is your first skin you just might find that you like doing them and start making more, getting better with each one. Having a I don't really want to do the whole self promotion gig may wind up at some time costing you money. Just something to think about.

It's a tough call. I look back at some of the first things I did and wonder how they made it at all to the main gallery. And I still submit the occasional piece o' crap. However, some things in my personal gallery did okay and when I look at them, I realize they wouldn't have done all that much better in the main gallery.
I have what I think is one of my worst walls ever in the main gallery doing better than some I consider pretty freakin' good for my limited talents. I can't figure it out. lol. I think there are folks out there who will download almost anything that appeals to them and may never use or find a use for it. I think that they account for a small portion of the download count.
I wouldn't give up on WC. And they have the keyword search ability now, (like DA). I know when my first wall was sent to my gallery, I got upset. Not so much for being sent to the gallery. I felt cheated. I was used to having things rejected and had become very dependent on those rejections to make me look harder at what I was trying to do and to do it better. Having it sent to the personal gallery kinda gave me a pass not to try. Of course, a mod or two offered to reject every other submission if it would help. lol.
Finally, in my frustration I created the 'Personal Page Elite' (all this for a lousy shameless plug, I know). Check it out. WWW Link
I've lost count of the Personalized icons I've made for those who have stopped by, but I'd be happy and honored to make one more.

I've gotten very few comments on my work by actual mods. The coolest thing that happened was in IRC chat. A Stardock/WC employee whom I never heard from before PM'd me and said they wish they could get my autograph. Then they posted a link. It was to a wall I had done over a year ago. THAT was cool. Oh, the wallpaper was the first official 'Troll Thumping Day' wall.
They thought it was me

AT LEAST I WILL BE MY OWN CRITIC AND i while i critique my own work i will not shun the least attractive works to a hidden place were there is no sun or light and or were no one can see! as for the substitution of people ranking my works with stars,, ill just add all my photos to the WMP 11 library and click 5 stars on every single one!
Thats rating and moderation for ya! Do what i do... BE YOUR OWN MODERATOR

You never know what will strike the fancy of someone. Some of my work that I consider some of my best, gets few downloads and other times a piece I think is just OK gets a lot of downloads. So go for it and have fun! I believe that you or anyone will actually improve their work by being out there in the public eye. Somewhat like learning a new language, thinking about it does no good, you have to speak it in real life situations and suddenly you begin to learn. I am sure you will do just fine and enjoy yourself as well!

Thats exactly what I do - I can upload walls directly to the site if I chose to - but I won't.
I know pretty much what will fly - and I won't upload crap just cause I can.
Everyone thinks the world can't live without their swirly fractal - guess what ? Yes they can.
Feel free to upload to DA - no one cares there and no one moderates your work.

I think you hae a good idea of what is acceptable here and what isn't. Now is the time to decide if it's something you can deal with or not and act accordingly.
Acting accordingly, in this case, does not mean continuing this thread in the same vein.
Look what is in the main gallery. Submission like that are acceptable. If you submit something different and it gets sent to your personal page you have a guideline of what is NOT acceptable. Work around that until you find whatever balance you want.
Options:
Submit work here at WC.
Accept that it may be 1) rejected because it doesn't follow the TOS; 2) moved to your personal page where you can advertise it as you will; or 3) it will go to the main gallery and be seen by millions
Or Submit it to another site where there is no moderation.
