Moderators, read here!

and i do consider the fact that a bunch of people uploading causes the need for more bandwidth or site performance issues.and i know that can possibly be why you guys are so strict on what gets uploaded....(i might be wrong) BUT:::
when a skin or wallpaper goes through "moderation" it shouldnt be judged by moderators in a sense of quality it should only be judged on copyright infringement protocol, and antiprofanity protocol.
you should let the consumers/end users/downloaders choose wheather its good or not and how can anyone do that if its stuck on a non directly accessed site which is its makers profile?? if it were place in the gallery automatically the maker would know almost within a few days if its any good or not! one persons likings are different from anothers.
more simply put, if the moderators dont like what you have rendered or made in a illustration program or whatever you use, it shouldnt matter to them! because thats the moderators opinion, not the opinion of the people downloading!
for and example, i actually browsed all the way from 5 star- to 2stars and saw all kinds of professionaly done wall papers and skins rated at 2 stars! and some of the two star rated content was way better than the 5 star stuff!
im finished bitching you ge my drift!

You totally missed the boat on what I said -
I was not agreeing with you at all.
I said that I moderate myself because I'm a Journeyman and my skins do not go into moderation. But I would not abuse my status by uploading crapola just because I can...
If they didn't moderate the wallpaper gallery it would be knee deep in fractals or pics of the family dog that might seem important to the up loader but the rest of the world would care less.
Hence my suggestion if your unhappy : Up load to Deviant Art - no one cares there.

Your last line struck me as especially pertinent:
I think we are a closer knit community here at WC. Perhaps it's because we are more focused on common applications. We do care a lot about our members. It makes a difference.

im not saying my art is good but they are Desktop Customization worthy in every aspect as in none of them was taken with a camera and they are simple and had time put into them! i used Smooth Draw NX,XP paint and a few filters in Irfan view to make what you see in my skins gallery....thx for being yet another to put me down for my work!
@ Zubaz,, thanks for clarifying that WC is a closely knit network of highly pyrous ( pyrous::,as in as hot as flames with hatred and put down savvy)People! i get creative with words, i know!!!
i guess i just dont make the cut! Im sorry i thought i was WC material.....I will crawl into a fetal position in a corner of a room with no light and cry!!
NOT!!!! i will keep uploading my art untill you all get the pic that i will not go anywere!
PS... unless i mis-interpreted Both of you again,, I will say to you that im sorry again!

I think if one knows that it is a master skin or the author is a well known one then one will estimate it to be better, no matters if one is moderator or a regular downloader. If a simple and average skin is posted by a well known skinner then it may get more stars than the avg. skin posted by a begginer.
wow i just fall short of a half of a star on all my walls in that moderation system too...
i get the pic! im not hurt over it just download my walls or dont i dont care! i was just contributing after all my downloads!
Reply #88 Friday, November 9, 2007 6:54 PM
thx everyone for posting once again!
i put up a good defense huh? think of my actions here as a debate on harball with Chris Mathews
im just dishing out thats all! It might sound cold and irrational, but thats a debate segment for ya!
as far as my art goes i will get better and this time i will make shure its Desktop Customization friendly!

Amazing how this type of thread always turns into a pile of someone getting out of joint. Fairyy said nothing of the kind to you. Why must someone always misconstrue what was clearly stated to them to suit their own needs to continue this repeatedly worn topic.
I would suggest that sublime, you genuinely move on.
Many of US have went down this road at sometime in our tenure here. What have we learned? Our foot tastes remarkably like ass most of the time. I for one from time to time (fairly recently) will attempt to refresh the memory of my taste buds while in a fit of ... anger. It's not a good habbit to form.

i moved on to a nice glass of cold pepsi and a cig break..i was just running off because i had been told that art was not welcome here,, But... my vision of what everyone is uploading is art in some form! ill shut up for now after this post and let this topic take flight to another wind. THE SCOOP::::
i thought she was saying that my art belongs were its not cared about but now that i look into it i was misleading myself once again. and right after she replied with that, zubaz said in accordance with her statement that
"WC is a tightly knit community.. Probably because of focusing on common aplications"
that was read by me as a reasoning for Fairyys "would care less" statement
so i peiced it together as, that the WC community is not looking for what is not cared about!
it was over my head appearently
AND I AM, deeply regretfull of posting in reaction of this mal-interpretation
Please forgive me Fairyy & Zubas
Just keep this thread going,, spill your opinions please... and hope that people like me dont get mixed into the Thread Equation

The works here are art, but they are of a specific nature, desktop customization.
WC is on a budget bandwidth/ server space and to be able to offer a wider variety of application library's and skins etc they have to moderate wallpapers, which is the largest library. If left unfettered it would devour the rest of the sites server space and bandwidth. So they moderate it to allow for the most usable desktop wallpapers.
I personally am happy with the fact that I don't have to wade through pages upon pages of half finished drawings, pics of lip kisses on white background, etc to find IMO a Suitable desktop wallpaper.

Thanks Phoon for clarifying - you knew just what I meant - I hadn't even looked at his gallery - until just now..
Please forgive me Fairyy & Zubas
No problem - I wouldnt tell someone their work was crappy. I would just encourage you to keep trying . The moderators placed them appropriately in your personal gallery.
That doesn't mean you just give up - it means make the next one better.
Apparently you have never seen my entry " Blueberry Hill " for the past " Art Rage " contest - I sent it to my WC Personal page because I have a sense of humor and can make fun of myself.

i guess what im trying to get at is:::: what did i fail to do in some if not all of them?
i will be deleting one of them today and i will be glad i did as i made this one when i had a few beers lol
another note: a lot of them look better when they are enlarged, whilst when they are in the small previews they dont look all that great
the alloy88 intstallment i tought would be an instant hit because it is similar to what i see throughout some window blind wall paper themes (you know, the ones that are put in the zip with window blinds file) its a very versitile wall set.....but any help from anyone right now as far as ideas and detailed critique would be more than welcome! so check out my current walls at this link::::

and comment there or here if youd like

I know this is why I don't get the ratings I would like, but I think I am treated pretty fairly. I guess my work comes out as cluttered as my thoughts and that is why I don't do 'wallpapers' as it were. Sublime20, for me, I think I get a bigger high out of 1 really good compliment or seeing one of my walls in the screenshot gallery than anything else. (I love to cruise the SS's for my walls-guilty pleasure)
I don't know if I have ever made anything with the idea it would or could be a 'hit'. I go with an idea and upload it and wait to see if anyone 'gets it' or just likes it enough to compliment.
I would just keep making what you like, and expand your technique and try some different things, check out some tutorials on effects and stuff. Gauranteed you will be able to look back and see how you grow as you keep applying yourself.

- your right about that.... i get a sense of fulfillment when i make something and not because it would be a hit... i would like to know that it is liked and not just by me -----i guess what im bent about is the fact the im trying to "have my cake and eat it too" based on what i said in the last sentence within this post!
i see all your points along with Fairyy's and Zubaz's with clarity,,,,i just need to find a good place to present my works.... i thought WC was the place but its a "refined, useable artwork site" as in my walls are just random and personal....
im ok with that,,,, i was also, when i created this thread, but i like to pry and dig for an elaborate answer, even though i might have an answer in front of my face
i dont want to strech this out with my opinions for now just ignore me or checkout my other topics! i have one in the "Personal cumputing>Videocards>Nvidia" section, also tonight i will be making another....
i will add you as a friend along with fairyy and zubaz and a few others for trying to get me on the right track! even though i push people around a bit i mean no harm
im just a persistant little f***er
in which i impose alot and like debating!Reply #100 Saturday, November 10, 2007 9:38 PM
This is a good place.
Have you actually looked at my walls? There are all levels of refinement and usability. Without offending and in all sincerity, may I suggest you just haven't found your level yet? Keep trying before you go away mad.
I don't recall anyone using the word 'random'...but aren't they all personal? Personal to the artist and personal to the downloader who found it appealing or connected to it.
How about stubborn? You were right in the beginning when you said
'im trying to "have my cake and eat it too"'. I think the hardest things for an artist is to be honest and objective about there own work, including the ones that are good that will overly 'downplay' their talent.
Maybe if so much of your work is being sent to your personal gallery, you should re-evaluate your technique or style for what might be missing or what you could alter or approach differently. Or...you could go find another site, as you've suggested, that would let you post anything and never challenge you to be better or explore your potential. Personally, for me, it would be kind of hollow in the end. With all the differences of opinions I have had over some of my own work and how it's been judged or moderated, I appreciate the time, effort, and knowledge that goes into what the mods try to do. And if I get too mad, I have my Jafo and Zubaz voodoo dolls to play with.
