How often do you change skins?
Friday, March 23, 2007 by PixelPunk | Discussion: Community
I particularly use Windowblinds and Iconpackager, and change skins anywhere from once to 5 times a week.
Often trying out what peeks my interest here on Wincustomize or Deviantart or somewhere else.
Am I in the minority here that changes it that often? I am always looking for thet perfect desktop.
Are you really getting your money's worth out of these premium skins/suites? Especially if you change skins as often as I do?
Has anyone realized that as few as 3 Master skins can cost more than the program itself?
I suppose if you get Object Dekstop and get one premium skin and use it for the entire year Stardock allows us to use the program then it could be worth it. But who does that?

i started using Beelzebub (by Boxxi) in WB about 8 months ago, and i still use it. I do download a lotta skins, but i rarely use them, although vStyler's SG-1 came close to knocking Beelzebub off my XP Pro install. I think it's just a personalization thing. some of us love it, some don't. whatever works for you is great!
I think so. It's not about the skin itself as it is about rewarding the skinner, who has spent more than enough months putting together a host of skins to upload in order to reach Master level, and spent a fair share of time working in the forums, as well. some are better than others, yea, but the skinners are all terrific! plus, the Master Skins are of higher quality.(not to say the freebies are junk, just that the Master Skins ARE better than most freebies).

There are several ways to look at Premium Skins or Master Skins, you know they are two different typs of skin packages. I haven't down loaded any, but I tend to take the position that it's payment for all the free skins that the skinner has or will download to wincustomize.
I'm not a skinner, and really don't want to be one, but one way around your point of cost is to learn how to skin. If you get good enought at it you too can become a Master.

Mine is always a work in progress. I rarely use the same exact skin for more than 15 minutes.
Currently scrounging all the Lonely Rose-related stuff I can find[screeny in mod at the moment]

- just kidding.... I change my wb skins once every 2-3 weeks, then I see something that seems like a cool idea for a wb, I start skinning it, if I feel it's worth it after skinning the window frames, taskbar & start panel, I continue using it and finish the wb within a few weeks - that helps me iron out the bugs and test out a skin thoroughly
- before I made my own wb's, I would literally change them once a day, so much good stuff in the gallery that I couldn't just stay with one permanently; that's the great thing about the skin galleries on this site, instant access warddrobes for my pc's 24/7!

Back in the old WB 4.5 days I used StealthOS from MikeB religiously every day for 3 straight YEARS! To me it still is by far the best most purest overall skin in my book anywhere for daily use and couldn't no one tell me any different!
Then WB5 came out, alpha blending, stuff was zooming, 3D graphics, motion, banging colors, Vista like concepts, transparency, aspects and ratio's, HD, DVD RW, Blue Laser not to even mention the 5.1 surround, now all of a sudden I've totally "PIMPED OUT" my once stricly business pc into this bling-bling monster that's the primary engine that runs my home entertainment center!
And my once blank and lifeless screen has transmogrified into, art!
I've been a WC member since 2003 and only stared doing screenies for about five months, so I'm still learning.
My bottom line is, since WB5, my skins might change several times a day now!
